LIVERPOOL v salzburg bull shYte ...

Dont believe everything in the mainscream, their : young superstar: had been shouting his mouth off  about what he would do against VVD, but maybe off with a "sicknote" ... /football/news/liverpool-handed-champions-league-boost-  ...

I am only concerned with the REdS TEAM;

None of the Fab 3 had a great game at sheffield..   I dont predict but I propose maybe a freshen up of the starting 11, and have 2 of the 3 on the bench when needed....

Div looked sharp from the bench at Sheffield and thats how I prefer him,

but,  I would start him in a traditional CF role at Anfield wednesday..

Home comforts for holders

Champions League football returns to Anfield for the first time since that memorable 4-0 win against Barcelona in May, a night which has gone down in history as one of the best comebacks in the history of the competition.
While the Reds, unbeaten at home in the competition since 2014, are not likely to produce anything as dramatic as that when they host red bull salzburg, they do need a win to get the defence of their crown up and running after defeat against Napoli a fortnight ago.
VVD:   Champions League test
Victory at Bramall Lane also extended the club record for successive away wins to eight and they have not lost outside of Anfield in the league since that defeat at the Etihad almost 10 months ago, their best run since 1989.
But attention quickly turns to Wednesday's visit of red bull salzburg as LIVERPOOL look to register their first Champions League win of the season after defeat in their opening game against Napoli.
"It's the media who love statistics. The reality is we have nothing at the moment. We want to continue to do well and there's still plenty of room for improvement," added VVD.
"We have to be confident; you have to think you're going to win every game otherwise you might as well stay at home. We have the quality, we have the players.
"We'll take this, recover and then prepare for salzburg and that will be a tough game as well. We have to win every game, that's how it is."

Liverpool v FC Red Bull Salzburg

Sportinglife>  8pm - BT Sport 3  (arena tv 21h local Balkans ) edited by CRS... :)
"It may look like a free hit for the defending European champions at Anfield, but this salzburg side will arrive in Liverpool determined to produce another fine showing, and have one of the most talked about young strikers in Europe right now. (injured?)
salzburg’s eye-catching 6-2 win against Genk in their Champions League opener raised a few eyebrows, as did the hat-trick from Norwegian teenager haland – who has bagged 17 goals in just 12 games this season.
That should be music to Liverpool as it sounds like the austrians will come to play, and an open game would be right up Mo Salah, Mane and Bobby’s street. "the Firm" may be the one man to get a rest in this game though, so watch the team-sheet as Divock Origi could get a rare start.
The Reds should win cosily enough, and I’ve got my doubts Salzburg will score as there have been more experienced teams than this who have frozen in the headlights of an Anfield European night – so we’re plumping for an early REds lead as the way to go

Key Opta stats

  • Liverpool haven’t lost at Anfield in European competition since October 2014 vs Real Madrid in the Champions League (0-3) – since then they’ve won 16 and drawn six times.
  • FC salzburg have only lost once in their last 17 away group stage games in Europe, all of which came in the Europa League (W12 D4 L1), falling to a 1-3 defeat at Schalke in September 2016.
  • Liverpool forward Mo Salah has found the net with just three of his last 49 attempts at goal in the Champions League, attempting five shots without success on MD1 against Napoli.
  • Jurgen Klopp has never lost at Anfield as Liverpool coach in European competition (P 19 - W15 D4 L0) – only Bob Paisley (29) has managed more games without ever losing at home with the Reds.

sheffield utd, 0  Liverpool  Men in Black 1 (Gini)

Lucky Liverpool again, in black kit.. and it might have been a dark day
I hate these early kick offs and at bramhall lane, a place which is tough to win at..
(REdS had problems to win there since 1990)
... slow start which IMO was a problem because the longer the game went on without scoring or even a shot on home sides goal,
gave sheffield more confidence, although Mane arguably should have scored 1 if not 2 of the easy chances
but the sheffield team garried and pressed and crowded out the Fab3, but for me the whole LIVERPOOL team were sluggish..
far too pedantic and possesion is important at such a match, but keeping the ball can work against a YEAM and it needed
someone to take initiative ,

Trent & Robbo were blcoked much of the game, and couldnt do their usual.. Fab..wasnt dominating ..sheffiedl palyers winnign too many "2nd balls"
...
second half was a bit better, but after an hour I felt that hendo, who had a couple of heavy knocks, and wasnt at his best
should have been replaced by Ox.. (who was put on AFTER 90 mins) JK instead put DIVock on, who was the star of the last half hour..
it pushed back the home side back having 4 forwards against them.. Milly came on for Hendo , which for me is "like for like"

arguably, Mane should have had a pen (again) .. then Gini, who had come close a couple of times from the edge of the box, hit a shot through a crowded pen area, which (manc loanee) henderson let through his legs... relief.

Bobby was off.. and Mo only woke up, as did most of the lads AFTER going ahead, the home side dipped and resorted to long balls, whilst
the MiB TEAM stepped up and really should have gone 2 ahead..anyway what counts, and maybe is a reflection of this sides resilience ..
to get another 3 points , and as I write are 8 points ahead.. mind you tonight citeh fraud klub go to goodison, whom sheffield utd beat there last weekend... but lucky or not... its still a good place to be , 7 games in = 7 wins.. MotM ?  Gini or Origi (half hour) or maybe Adrian who did nothing wrong.. unlike his team mates..

much said about the 2 centre backs, its almost always the case that Cbs mature with age .. that why Matip maybe is slightly ahead over Joe, but.. the 2 let in more chances than normal ; had chelski forwards been sharper it could have been a bad reuslt. however Fab also seemed tired , as did Mane & Mo , I think the napoli game took more out of the lads than realsied... which is why I agree that the "2nd team (fringe players) should start at Dons... give the key players a rest before going to sheffield..

if Div gets fit and back in contention, I hope Jk plays him at number 9 (traditional) if Bobby is rested , as playing hijm on the left seems to blunt his game, in such cases i;d rather see Shaq on the left , than Div, IF one of the fab 3 is rested or JK chooses to replace a midfielder with a forward, mind you Ox looks to be the "next in line" if .... Fab Gini & Hendo are NOT played as they are the "first Teamers" IMO

TAW love in ha ha .. "idiosyncratic" (Gutmann, impersonating Bert ..of Bert & Ernie fame..) ? looks like Shanks idealism ( of keeping it simple) is buried by Atkinson's ego trip show..

IMO all professional clubs should offer a shareholding , with voting power at AGM's to supporters (there should be a criteria to prove that the individual has been supporting..by ticket records or social media profile etc)  ..if clubs were 50% owned by the support there woudl be a) better community relations b) realistic expectations based on transparent management c) significant injection of funds...  (and less of the rip offs by owners in top echelon..!  hello Lfc!)

ChRiS>  i propose (not predict) ...That if JK is indeed planning a higher defensive line,, not only will Adrian have to be a GK = sweeper Like Pepe reina often was..  JK may want to slot in Joe (with his exceptional pace) and Joe help keep a "sound" CB pairing that may turn into a back 3 ..

one thing is for sure,, women or men , referees or "pundits"  (who love the sound of their own voice) can be equally annoying... but thats part of modern football!

which would allow Fab & Gini to add to Hendo (who only had a bit part at  soton) with "the Firm" , Mane & Mo all pressing early on and with fast counters , probably with Trent & Ox replacing Matip and Hendo ... and I would perhaps Give Shaq a run (if he deserves it) should any of the "fab 3" need freshening..

always amazing how fans & pundits jump to conclusions after 2 games of a 38 game league season... anyone who knows football knows not to make any sort of conclusions until december/january... and even then,... but the world is full of knee jerkers  (focus on the Jerk...)   VAR , IMO should be limited to goal line tech .and IF , and only IF the referee feels he/she needs assistance .... the rest  is part of the game , learning to accept , and when we were kids, we were taught that refs should give the beenfit  of the doubt to attackers when there was a (e,.g. offside) dispute,.. https://chrismithlog.blogspot.com/2019/08/rednet-updated-post-soton-taking-in.html

soton 1 LIVERPOOL "men in black" 2

Mane was danger man at soton,  scored a beauty and won the ball to set up Bobby , after he had also put "the Firm" through only for Bobby to tuck the ball past the
post when "give him the ball and he will score" was being prepare dat the travelling Kop end..

after Adrian, who had made some great first half saves .. gived Ings a consolation, soton who were dead and buried
with 10 minutes left on the clock, Mane, and Robbo bringing top saves out of the soton keeper..

H-T 0-1 Liverpool lead through Mane, but need to sharpen up if taking 3 points away from today.,,
VVD out-jumped? he needs to bring the Ball out.. driaan saved a couple
playing in black in august??? why???

Gini looked good, Mo erratic, should have scored , Ox had his moments, Milly in the wars, as usual put in ashift but not much more , Matip ok.,
Trent & Robbo at 75% ..Fab didnt look up for it when he came on..Hendos 100th leage game..?
Soton made it tough, as expected , but after a lethargic first half the "men in black" took control..until..

https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/individual-brilliance-from-sadio-mane-and-roberto-firmino-seals-liverpool-win-as-adrian-gifts-saints-a-goal-38411994.html

splife > Liverpool made light of their exhaustive midweek jaunt to Turkey to post a joint club-record 11th straight Premier League win with a 2-1 success at Southampton.

Goalkeeper Adrian was declared fit for this one after picking up an ankle injury when a fan slid into him during the celebrations of the midweek Super Cup win in Istanbul, which meant 35-year-old Andy Lonergan was denied becoming the oldest ever Premier League debutant.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his first league start since April 2018 after returning from his long term injury.

Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino kept up their impressive domestic record as they have won every game going back to the Merseyside derby on March 3 and are unbeaten in 19 overall.

Southampton caused them a host of problems, as fatigue seemed to be an issue, but Mane's brilliant goal gave them a half-time lead and the second half was an incisive attacking display which should have yielded more than Firmino's effort.

Adrian, who had been the hero of Istanbul, produced some more heroics in the opening 20th minute to stop Southampton taking the lead.

Southampton continued to better their visitors and fashioned another fine chance seven minutes before the break as Che Adams found space in between the two centre-backs, but put his free header from Oriol Romeu's cross over the crossbar.

There was a sense those misses might be costly and so it proved in first-half stoppage time as some neat passing ended up with Mane inside the area and he created space for himself and then curled a delightful effort into the top corner.

Klopp's men had been lucky to be in front at half-time, but they should have been home and hosed by the hour mark as they found their attacking groove early in the second half and missed some big chances.

First James Milner rolled an effort just wide, before an off-boil Mohamed Salah broke the offside trap and was denied by the feet of Angus Dunn.

Firmino was the guiltiest party, though, when he missed from close range from another Mane centre.

The Brazilian made up for that miss in the 71st minute as Liverpool appeared to kill the game
when he fired into the bottom corner after cutting across the edge of the area."

away with an  early kick off (AGAIN) saturday

why do I show Torres & Firm?  ..because .. for me the player of the moment, even more than VVD or Mane (who is on fire most of the time) I agree with JK about the class of "Bobby"

There was a song (original from semis FA cup '65) that became the "Torres song"  and I think "Bobby" deserves something more "upbeat" ..I prefer to call him "the Firm" because he is "the business" in that pivotal role during transition from defence/pressing to attack/shooting... .. so as "homage to the Firm"

"the Firm song" ...

" We call him Bobby and he wears the Nine" (haroo)
... he's on the ball and passes fine...

want to change the Lyrics, Bobby? ??? ok! :)
He can shoot & score with either foot
mancs arent fit enough to kiss his boot..

Bobby Firmino ; LIVERPOOL's number 9..."

Robbo;  “With his work-rate, his technique, his goals and his all-round play, I don’t think there’s anyone like him,” team-mate Andy Robertson says. “People will say there are better strikers, but for me what he does is so important to our team. We’d be lost without him. He’s world class.”

Firmino still flies a little under the radar. But he is a remarkable player. He is not a No.10 but he can play through balls. He is not a midfielder but can often be found with the ball at his feet and his head up in the centre circle. He is not an outright poacher but takes plenty of the chances that come his way; those 50 Premier League goals are evidence enough for that.  “He does everything, and that’s the beauty of Bobby,” says Robertson. “He can do it all. He’s our first line of defence, and I’ve not seen anybody better at doing that. He presses the defenders and doesn’t give them a minute. He comes back and nicks the ball in midfield for us.
The problem with 4-4-2 is that it leaves no space for a holding midfielder to step back between the lines and make sure no opposition player is loitering. And that’s where Firmino wreaks havoc. We have become used to a certain archetype of a No.9. You know the one; he’ll play passes only in the hope of getting one back closer to goal. He’s a poacher, all about runs in behind that will bring a chance. He is selfish, in a good way.
If that kind of No.9 plays for himself, Firmino is another thing altogether. He is the best all-round forward operating anywhere in world football. He is confident enough in his own ability to drift, allowing Salah to come in off the right for a wander. He forces the centre-backs to make a decision; go with or pass on. He finds his way into the gaps, like that  song finds its way into your brain."

wilder's side have showed a fearless and battling approach so far and providing plenty of entertainment in the process, including coming from two down to draw  at Stamford Bridge.
Tomorrow  welcome league leaders Liverpool, who have won six of six and look like they will take some stopping  with efficient and effective performances, on a 15-match winning run, unbeaten in the Premier League for a total of 23 games.
the home crowd behind the blades, who sit sixth in the standings for total corners taken this season with 38 and they average an impressive nine per home game. Liverpool, meanwhile, are second in the overall corner standings with 44 and they average seven a game on the road.
Key stats
  • bramall Lane is one of only three grounds Liverpool have played at without winning in the Premier League (three games), along with Nottingham Forest’s City Ground (five games) and Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road (one game).
  • In Liverpool’s current run of 15 consecutive Premier League wins, they’ve scored 42 goals, front three of Sadio Mane (12), Mohamed Salah (9) and Roberto Firmino (6) have scored 64% of those goals, with there being just one game in which none of the trio have found the net during this run (2-0 vs Cardiff in April)

Post Match from JK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHnsdTI4R3E

... The lads took on MK Dons away mixed with the experience of  Milly, Adam, Ox and Naby ... Kelleher did enough in goal to keep it at nil. with a goal for the REdS in both halves , Milly trying his luck with a powerful strike from distance,   and crossing for young Hoever coming from RB to head in powerfully in the 2nd half...

Elliot hitting the bar (MotM?) twice & Kent for the most part gave MK some trouble.,, Rhian was crowded out but got a full game, with Joe & Dejan getting match time, were not always in tandem ... but recovered from a couple of basic errors... I wonder if its a loss for Joe not being paired with VVD.. Joe needs a sound partner at CB, and Matip is benefitting in the first team, from that..

Ox had an hour, hitting the post with a typical shot from distance. had his moments , as did Lallana & Keita .. and despite a late rally from MK ..the REdS deserved the win and although the eventual return of AB could mean Adrian replaces the lad Kelleher in goal. I would like to see much the same side take on the arse nal in the next round..

chelski rent blues 1 VAR= LIVERPOOL 2

although we got "the decision" , VAR is still a farce..

yes, "technically Mount was offside by VAR rules" but I would be sick if a LIVERPOOL goal was disallowed like that ... we used to be FAIR about our footy but now too many fan nies dont care about cheating or justice...

VAR wasnt used for the REdS v newcastle, but a win, then an unlucky night at Napoli the LUCK went the way of the REdS at chelski ...

Chris Fab was good but allowed kante in for his goal which got chelski back in the game,

Kante was again MotM (also when we beat them in the super cup final... kept the rent blues in the game) chelsea-1-2-liverpool-joy-of-six-for-klopps

chelski rent blues 1 LIVERPOOL 2 (Trent, Bobby)
lucky Liverpool, VAR wasn't helping Tuesday night, & today chelski arguably done enough for a point, but a great strike from Trent and Bobby's header from the spot kick when the blues were still licking their wounds , won the game, Mane & Mo were still in the bath, having not really showed themselves all game....

was IMO one of the worst performances so far..
Lfc were better at Napoli...

Fab went to sleep when MotM Kante ran through for their goal! maybe him, Mane & Mo starting to believe their own publicity.

IMO team needs a kick up the arse, far too loose , chelski had too many chances and the Lfc passing was scarppy, the rent blues had ..more attempts, more accuracy, more ball possession.. Hendo got drawn into a punch up...Robbo & Trent not very accurate, despite Trent scoring with a "Stevie" free kick ...
VAR didnt help tuesday but IMO chelski deserved the equalizer.

.the Lfc defence was a shambles, gave the left side of the rent blues attack far too much space...however "the Firm" got on the end of a port kick to make it 0-2... well done Bobby but the |fab 3" weer absent today.... 14 consecutive wins, tells me that even when "off form" the Team manage to scap and get the result..

I have said a hundred times , I question JK when subbing players, Milly & Lallana, for Mane & Mo ? defensive subs give the initiative to opponents., JK needs to learn this.. luck on the side of Liverpool , but i would rather have the luck today over tuesday at Napoli. Lfc can recover the group status. but IMO cant afford to drop league points..

VVD & Matip not at their best, case for Joe to come in now..? Fab needs a talking to,, MK Dons will mean a lot of changes but I would use this week to get the lads sorted

Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool Opta stats

Liverpool are the first team in top-flight history to win their opening six matches of a top-flight season in two consecutive seasons.
Chelsea have conceded 13 goals in their six Premier League matches this season – their most after six league matches of a season since 1978-79 (also 13), when they went on to finish bottom of the First Division.
Liverpool have won consecutive Premier League matches against Chelsea for the first time since a run of four wins between November 2010 and May 2012.
Liverpool have won their last 15 league matches – the only team with a longer winning run in top-flight history is Manchester City (18 between August and December 2017).
Chelsea have lost consecutive home matches in all competitions for the first time since April 2014, when they lost against Sunderland and Atlético Madrid.
Jürgen Klopp managed his 150th Premier League game today – he has registered 92 wins in those games, with only José Mourinho (105) winning more in his first 150 matches in the competition.
Frank Lampard is only the second Chelsea manager to fail to win any of his first four home matches in all competitions (W0 D2 L2), after Bobby Campbell in 1988.
Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Liverpool have scored 34 goals from set-piece situations in the Premier League – seven more than any other team.
Chelsea have failed to win any of their opening three home Premier League matches in a season for only the second time, also doing so in 2001-02 during Frank Lampard’s first season there as a player.
