saturday 28th September #19

away with an  early kick off (AGAIN) saturday

why do I show Torres & Firm?  ..because .. for me the player of the moment, even more than VVD or Mane (who is on fire most of the time) I agree with JK about the class of "Bobby"

There was a song (original from semis FA cup '65) that became the "Torres song"  and I think "Bobby" deserves something more "upbeat" ..I prefer to call him "the Firm" because he is "the business" in that pivotal role during transition from defence/pressing to attack/shooting... .. so as "homage to the Firm"

"the Firm song" ...

" We call him Bobby and he wears the Nine" (haroo)
... he's on the ball and passes fine...

want to change the Lyrics, Bobby? ??? ok! :)
He can shoot & score with either foot
mancs arent fit enough to kiss his boot..

Bobby Firmino ; LIVERPOOL's number 9..."

Robbo;  “With his work-rate, his technique, his goals and his all-round play, I don’t think there’s anyone like him,” team-mate Andy Robertson says. “People will say there are better strikers, but for me what he does is so important to our team. We’d be lost without him. He’s world class.”

Firmino still flies a little under the radar. But he is a remarkable player. He is not a No.10 but he can play through balls. He is not a midfielder but can often be found with the ball at his feet and his head up in the centre circle. He is not an outright poacher but takes plenty of the chances that come his way; those 50 Premier League goals are evidence enough for that.  “He does everything, and that’s the beauty of Bobby,” says Robertson. “He can do it all. He’s our first line of defence, and I’ve not seen anybody better at doing that. He presses the defenders and doesn’t give them a minute. He comes back and nicks the ball in midfield for us.
The problem with 4-4-2 is that it leaves no space for a holding midfielder to step back between the lines and make sure no opposition player is loitering. And that’s where Firmino wreaks havoc. We have become used to a certain archetype of a No.9. You know the one; he’ll play passes only in the hope of getting one back closer to goal. He’s a poacher, all about runs in behind that will bring a chance. He is selfish, in a good way.
If that kind of No.9 plays for himself, Firmino is another thing altogether. He is the best all-round forward operating anywhere in world football. He is confident enough in his own ability to drift, allowing Salah to come in off the right for a wander. He forces the centre-backs to make a decision; go with or pass on. He finds his way into the gaps, like that  song finds its way into your brain."

home side n their return to the Premier League, collecting more points (eight) than the other newcomers in Norwich and Aston Villa and they will be fired up for this one.
wilder's side have showed a fearless and battling approach so far and providing plenty of entertainment in the process, including coming from two down to draw  at Stamford Bridge.
Tomorrow  welcome league leaders Liverpool, who have won six of six and look like they will take some stopping  with efficient and effective performances, on a 15-match winning run, unbeaten in the Premier League for a total of 23 games.
the home crowd behind the blades, who sit sixth in the standings for total corners taken this season with 38 and they average an impressive nine per home game. Liverpool, meanwhile, are second in the overall corner standings with 44 and they average seven a game on the road.
Key stats
  • bramall Lane is one of only three grounds Liverpool have played at without winning in the Premier League (three games), along with Nottingham Forest’s City Ground (five games) and Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road (one game).
  • In Liverpool’s current run of 15 consecutive Premier League wins, they’ve scored 42 goals, front three of Sadio Mane (12), Mohamed Salah (9) and Roberto Firmino (6) have scored 64% of those goals, with there being just one game in which none of the trio have found the net during this run (2-0 vs Cardiff in April)

MK Dons 0
Milly & the Lads 2   (  Milly , Hoever)

Post Match from JK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHnsdTI4R3E

... The lads took on MK Dons away mixed with the experience of  Milly, Adam, Ox and Naby ... Kelleher did enough in goal to keep it at nil. with a goal for the REdS in both halves , Milly trying his luck with a powerful strike from distance,   and crossing for young Hoever coming from RB to head in powerfully in the 2nd half...

Elliot hitting the bar (MotM?) twice & Kent for the most part gave MK some trouble.,, Rhian was crowded out but got a full game, with Joe & Dejan getting match time, were not always in tandem ... but recovered from a couple of basic errors... I wonder if its a loss for Joe not being paired with VVD.. Joe needs a sound partner at CB, and Matip is benefitting in the first team, from that..

Ox had an hour, hitting the post with a typical shot from distance. had his moments , as did Lallana & Keita .. and despite a late rally from MK ..the REdS deserved the win and although the eventual return of AB could mean Adrian replaces the lad Kelleher in goal. I would like to see much the same side take on the arse nal in the next round..

chelski rent blues 1 VAR= LIVERPOOL 2

although we got "the decision" , VAR is still a farce..

yes, "technically Mount was offside by VAR rules" but I would be sick if a LIVERPOOL goal was disallowed like that ... we used to be FAIR about our footy but now too many fan nies dont care about cheating or justice...

VAR wasnt used for the REdS v newcastle, but a win, then an unlucky night at Napoli the LUCK went the way of the REdS at chelski ...

Chris Fab was good but allowed kante in for his goal which got chelski back in the game,

Kante was again MotM (also when we beat them in the super cup final... kept the rent blues in the game) chelsea-1-2-liverpool-joy-of-six-for-klopps

Robbo Resilient  but VVD and Fab have had better games..

relieved at the end...

chelski rent blues 1 LIVERPOOL 2 (Trent, Bobby)
lucky Liverpool, VAR wasn't helping Tuesday night, & today chelski arguably done enough for a point, but a great strike from Trent and Bobby's header from the spot kick when the blues were still licking their wounds , won the game, Mane & Mo were still in the bath, having not really showed themselves all game....

was IMO one of the worst performances so far..
Lfc were better at Napoli...

Fab went to sleep when MotM Kante ran through for their goal! maybe him, Mane & Mo starting to believe their own publicity.

IMO team needs a kick up the arse, far too loose , chelski had too many chances and the Lfc passing was scarppy, the rent blues had ..more attempts, more accuracy, more ball possession.. Hendo got drawn into a punch up...Robbo & Trent not very accurate, despite Trent scoring with a "Stevie" free kick ...
VAR didnt help tuesday but IMO chelski deserved the equalizer.

.the Lfc defence was a shambles, gave the left side of the rent blues attack far too much space...however "the Firm" got on the end of a port kick to make it 0-2... well done Bobby but the |fab 3" weer absent today.... 14 consecutive wins, tells me that even when "off form" the Team manage to scap and get the result..

I have said a hundred times , I question JK when subbing players, Milly & Lallana, for Mane & Mo ? defensive subs give the initiative to opponents., JK needs to learn this.. luck on the side of Liverpool , but i would rather have the luck today over tuesday at Napoli. Lfc can recover the group status. but IMO cant afford to drop league points..

VVD & Matip not at their best, case for Joe to come in now..? Fab needs a talking to,, MK Dons will mean a lot of changes but I would use this week to get the lads sorted

Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool Opta stats

Liverpool are the first team in top-flight history to win their opening six matches of a top-flight season in two consecutive seasons.
Chelsea have conceded 13 goals in their six Premier League matches this season – their most after six league matches of a season since 1978-79 (also 13), when they went on to finish bottom of the First Division.
Liverpool have won consecutive Premier League matches against Chelsea for the first time since a run of four wins between November 2010 and May 2012.
Liverpool have won their last 15 league matches – the only team with a longer winning run in top-flight history is Manchester City (18 between August and December 2017).
Chelsea have lost consecutive home matches in all competitions for the first time since April 2014, when they lost against Sunderland and Atlético Madrid.
Jürgen Klopp managed his 150th Premier League game today – he has registered 92 wins in those games, with only José Mourinho (105) winning more in his first 150 matches in the competition.
Frank Lampard is only the second Chelsea manager to fail to win any of his first four home matches in all competitions (W0 D2 L2), after Bobby Campbell in 1988.
Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Liverpool have scored 34 goals from set-piece situations in the Premier League – seven more than any other team.
Chelsea have failed to win any of their opening three home Premier League matches in a season for only the second time, also doing so in 2001-02 during Frank Lampard’s first season there as a player.
