European CL semis , post wbaway...haven't you got a Rome to go to"?? ... with hope in Y-OUR HEAT!

"haven't you got a Rome to go to"??

First game ;
LIVERPOOL 5 aroma 2 ;)

of course its not over yet... before the game I i thought 2-0 before it started... at 5-0 ... game over, but again, JK undoes some of his good work.....please do NOT give the initiative to the other team... again! //... Roma only started to play footy at 5-0 ,... surely you get it now, Juergen ... they had NO chance at 5-0 ..

do not take off Mo... please dont keep defending a lead... you have one plan,, it works ..until you defend it... ,
....a star performance which began as a slow-burner before turning into a  storming  of "aroma"....

still a threat with a late rally which may make  a nervous 90 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico next week.

MO was expected to have a rough time against the side he left in the summer but in truth none of his former team-mates could do anything to stop him.

He scored two brilliant first-half goals - his 42nd and 43rd of an incredible season - with two also for Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane on target as well as Liverpool made the most of their first Champions League semi-final in a decade.

The downside were goals from Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti and a knee injury to  Ox , who left the pitch on a stretcher with his head in his hands and his knee in a brace  ....

Roma almost silenced Anfield when goalkeeper Loris Karius misread the flight of former Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov's driven shot but managed to get enough of a hand on it to divert it onto the crossbar.

But it was not long before the hosts had one of those passages of play which has become all too familiar to opposition teams.
They blew away City in the quarter-final with three goals in 19 first-half minutes and it is no exaggeration to suggest they could have put this tie beyond the visitors in the  17 minutes before the interval.

Mane could have had a hat-trick, hitting two good chances over and having a sliding effort disallowed for offside, while MO had a shot palmed away by Alisson having cut in from the right - a precursor of what was to come.
Roma did not heed the warning and a few minutes later Salah was again allowed to cut in and shape a trademark shot with his left foot.

He placed a curling shot in the only spot Alisson could not reach it, jamming it against the angle of post and crossbar on its way in the top corner...
It was a goal befitting of the occasion but Mo's second was equally brilliant.

The unmarked Lovren headed over as Roma threatened to buckle under the pressure before the Egypt international struck in first-half added time.
His exquisite lay-off to Firmino saw the Brazilian storm through midfield before playing a wonderfully-weighted return pass which MO took one touch to control before dinking a shot over Alisson -

After the break MO turned provider, racing onto Trent 's ball down the line to cross for Mane to turn home from close range.
When the young scouser and Mo combined again, the latter leaving Juan Jesus completely bamboozled, Firmino was the beneficiary from a couple of yards out.

Firmino's header from a corner made it 5-0 but Dzeko's neat finish and Perotti's debatable penalty gave aroma hope of repeating their brilliant quarter-final comeback at home to Barca.

,, but i will take this... "aRoma" (fans stabbed a Liverpool lad? and what will UEFA do about that?) may think they can win 3-0 again ... but just score one away goal
...and Lfc are in the final.
in a way it would have been embarrassing for the roman side to lose 5-0 ...nice to see how friendly >Jk is,.. ;)

It will be very hostile away next wednesday on & off the field...

JK  said afterwards: "It was a perfect performance for pretty much 80 minutes or so, then we made one defensive mistake and Dzeko made the most of the situation.
"That's the rules of the competition, each goal you score helps massively.
"I think we agree the penalty wasn't even a penalty, it's not even handball, but that's the situation and now it's 5-2.
"I would be much more happy if we had won 5-0 or 5-1 but 5-2 is still a fantastic result.
"I could not even have imagined that was possible, so the boys still did outstandingly good and we go there and try to win again, that's it."

LETS make it RED HOT @ Anfield!!!!

LIVERPOOL v roma

Liverpool host Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night hoping Anfield can have a similar effect on the away side as it did on Manchester City in the last round, but Roma proved against Barcelona that they are never out of a tie as they came from 4-1 down to go through on away goals.

they've played each other five times before, but there has been some cracking games between Liverpool and Roma down the years - starting with the most famous one of all back in 1984 when Roma hosted the European Cup final in their own stadium< when Bruce put off the roma pen takers...

Mo Salah signed from Roma last summer. The newly-crowned PFA Player of the Year has been in phenomenal form this year and could just fire Liverpool to European glory.

He has found the back of the net in his last nine games at home and in 32 of the 46 matches he has played this campaign, and if anything he’s getting better as he’s netted 35 in his last 34 games.

Roma   have the inside track of course with Salah being a former player, but he’s certainly elevated himself to the next level since joining Liverpool and he again will be the key to the game.

& has been involved in a goal, either scoring or providing an assist, every 66 minutes in this season's Premier League action.

He’s been involved in a Liverpool goal against 18 of the 19 different opponents this season – only failing to post a goal or an assist in his two appearances versus Manchester United. during his previous stint at Chelsea, he made just 13 Premier League appearances, seven of which were off the bench, and scored only twice.

It was in the 57th minute of his Liverpool bow when Salah opened his account for the Reds in the 3-3 draw with Watford back in August.

- Mo s best scoring streak of the season occurred between an FA Cup tie against West Brom on January 27 and a Premier League win over Newcastle on March 3. He scored for seven games running in all competitions and struck twice against Tottenham.

and became the first player in Premier League history to win the player of the month award three times during a term. He was voted as the division's best player in November, February and March.

Mo Salah joined Roger Hunt and Ian Rush as the only players in Liverpool's history to have scored 40 times in a single season when he headed home against Bournemouth at Anfield earlier this month. & that goal achieved another milestone in becoming the first African player to score 30 times across one Premier League campaign.

As well as his fine form in England, Salah has also scored eight times in the tournament phase of this season's Champions League. Only Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, with 15 to his credit, has found the net more often in the group stages and knockout rounds of Europe's premier club competition.

JK>
"In the stadium, do it again, outside the stadium please show the respect we have to show," he said.
"You've been the true star of this European campaign - now let's show our best to the world."

"This is such a fantastic club, an outstanding football family, known for a fantastic atmosphere all over the world, so we don't need to throw whatever at the bus of the opponent team.

"If we can do what we did creating an atmosphere in front of the stadium then let's do it, but show the respect they deserve. We are opponents on the pitch.

"Everyone knows what a wonderful city Rome is, not everyone knows how wonderful Liverpool is and, if we can show how wonderful Liverpool people are and the city and the spirit of the club, we can show it in 20 minutes before the game and then the whole world knows it.

... "I really think all the people who are with LFC deserve that, that we show that face."

Asked what difference fans could make inside the ground, Klopp said: "I don't have to tell the people what I want to see because they know it already, they are more experienced in these moments than we are.

"They have created a few of the most special atmospheres in world football. I don't know if we can do better than Man City inside the stadium but, if it's possible, let's try.

"These are the very special moments and if you cannot enjoy that moment something is really wrong for you.

"For the boys on the pitch it is hard work, but it is still much more fun when you do it Anfield. I don't have to say anything, I know they will be perfect."

///////////

The spine-tingling Anfield atmosphere should be evident again and many a big European team has crumbled against a sea of noise and red wave of attacking football, but in Roma Liverpool face a team that know all is not lost after a first leg defeat. Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco also favours a 4-3-3 formation but changed to a back three in the second leg against Barcelona to flood the midfield with Daniele De Rossi, Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman and nullify Lionel Messi

A 3-0 win over City was enough in the end for Liverpool, but Roma lost 4-1 away in Barcelona only to then go through on away goals after a 3-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico – the Italians' own fortress which has yet to be breached this season in the Champions League. Liverpool have lost only one of their last 20 home European games but with Roma also so strong at home, perhaps keeping the back door closed may be even more important than banging them in at the other end....

Liverpool's defending overall has been much better since Virgil van Dijk joined, and allowing just one goal in two games against Man City is as good as it gets defensively, & are also the top scorers in the Champions League with 33, but they've also only conceded seven, (5 of which in qualifying group v sevila?) while Roma have only scored 15 and let in 12,

UEFA> Liverpool FC and AS Roma will revive memories of the 1984 European Cup final when they meet in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield.
• While this is Liverpool's tenth appearance in the last four of the European Cup, it is the first time the English club have got this far since 2007/08, when they suffered only their second semi-final defeat.

• The teams at the Stadio Olimpico on 30 May 1984 were:
Roma: Tancredi, Nappi, Nela, Righetti, Bonetti, Toninho Cerezo (Strukelj 55), Di Bartolomei, Falcão, Conti, Pruzzo (Chierico 63), Graziani.
Liverpool: Grobbelaar, Neal, Lawrenson, Hansen, Kennedy, Johnston (Nicol 69), Lee, Souness, Whelan, Dalglish (Robinson 93), Rush.

Michael Owen scored twice in the second half (46, 72) in a 2-0 first-leg win at the Stadio Olimpico in the 2000/01 UEFA Cup fourth round, and Liverpool held on despite losing the home second leg to Gianni Guigou's 69th-minute strike, Roma ending with nine men after Damiano Tommasi and Guigou were both sent off late on. The English club went on to win the competition.
• The teams in that second leg at Anfield on 22 February 2001 were:
Liverpool: Westerveld, Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypiä, Carragher, Hamann, McAllister, Ziege, Barmby (Fowler 80), Owen (Å micer 67), Heskey.
Roma: Antonioli, Candela, Samuel, Zebina, Zago, Marcos Assunção, Tommasi, Rinaldi (Guigou 58), Nakata, Montella (Balbo 78), Delvecchio (Batistuta 58).

• In the teams' most recent contests, in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League second group stage, a goalless draw in Rome preceded a 2-0 Liverpool win on Merseyside thanks to goals from Jari Litmanen (7 penalty) and Emile Heskey (64). That took Liverpool into the quarter-finals at Roma's expense.
• The teams at Anfield on 19 March 2002 were:
Liverpool: Dudek, Xavier, Henchoz, Hyypiä, Carragher, Å micer (McAllister 90+1), Murphy, Gerrard, Riise, Litmanen (Bišćan 88), Heskey.
Roma: Antonioli, Panucci, Samuel, Aldair, Tommasi, Marcos Assunção (Cassano 69), Emerson, Francisco Lima (Montella 46), Candela, Totti, Batistuta (Delvecchio 46).
• Edin Džeko and Mohamed Salah scored for Roma in a 2-1 friendly win against Liverpool in St Louis in August 2016. The Italian side had also been victorious 1-0 when the teams met in Boston two years earlier, while in 2004 Liverpool were 2-1 victors in another US friendly in East Rutherford.

Matchday memories: Classic semi-final moments
• Liverpool's overall record in two-legged knockout ties against Italian clubs in UEFA competition is won four, lost two. They have won the last two, most recently against FC Internazionale Milano in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League round of 16 (2-0 home, 1-0 away).
• The Reds' record in 25 European games against Italian teams is W9 D5 L11. This is their first meeting since being paired with Udinese Calcio in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League group stage, when they lost 3-2 at home before winning 1-0 in Italy thanks to a Jordan Henderson goal.
• Liverpool's record at home to Serie A visitors is W6 D0 L4; they have lost two of the last three.
• The English club have played five UEFA club competition finals against Italian sides, with the record W0 D2 L3, though the draws – 1-1 against Roma in the 1984 European Cup final, and 3-3 against AC Milan in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final – prompted Liverpool wins on penalties. They lost to Juventus in the 1985 UEFA Super Cup and European Cup final, and to Milan in the UEFA Champions League in 2007.
• Lfc are unbeaten at home in this season's UEFA Champions League, picking up seven points at Anfield in the group stage. They drew 2-2 with Sevilla FC before a 3-0 scalp of NK Maribor and wrapped up first place in Group E with a 7-0 dismantling of FC Spartak Moskva.
• In the round of 16, a  0-5 success at FC Porto preceded a goalless second leg on Merseyside. Manchester City FC were then overcome in the quarter-finals, Liverpool winning 3-0 at Anfield and 2-1 away.
• Before being held by Sevilla, Liverpool's previous six European games at Anfield had all produced a home win. They are unbeaten in their last 15 European home matches (W10 D5),

1983/84: W 3-2 Dundee United FC (0-2 a, 3-0 h)
• Roma won their first three two-legged knockout ties against English clubs – but have since lost six out of six. Their last knockout tie against Premier League opposition was a 7-6 loss on penalties to Arsenal FC in the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League round of 16 (0-1 away, 1-0 home).
• The Italian side have already visited England this season, recovering from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 at Chelsea FC in the group stage. Roma's last three trips to England have all ended in draws.
• Roma have nevertheless won only one of their 16 away games in England, losing nine. Before this season, their last trip was a 1-1 draw at Manchester City FC in the 2014/15 group stage, in which Francesco Totti became the oldest goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League.

REDNET? (via H-T> ) i80421...

wba 2 LFC 2 (Ings, Mo) ...

another virtual match report by your REdNET (link) co-respondent (its not a divorce..yet)

well Luke Cage's dad must be pleased with a point, as his wba hung on to their EPL survival, just,
and Lfc did NOT hang on to the 3 points which would have made them closer to 2nd .. again...

The Ref, was NOT my MOtM ! Milly probably shaved it, with another impressive 94 minute shift, action man took this seriously..
perhaps consiering selection will be harder next seASON, HE IS MAKING EVER MINUTE COUNT! THANKS FOR THAT..!

arguably Lfc should have had a pen or two, and wba a yellow or red card or 2.. (Dawson trip on Ings & Hegazi punched Danny..) however, apart from the last 10 minutes and a period of corners in the first half... its was all Lfc..

Ings could have made it 0-2 but very pleased he got his goal ..as was he! ... However, I was not happy with the defensive changes
three changes was one too many for me, and although it may seem harsh, as he is short of match practise ,, the main culprit was moreNO!
however JK doesnt escape criticism either... whilst i understood the reasoning on replacing Danny with Roberto and Mane (to save him) with Ox,to give them all a run out... surely Dejan would have replaced Alberto had it not been for saving Mo for tuesday too..(who had been given a bump ride by the wba defenders, still got his goal...assisted by Ox)

Especially as it did not stop their 2nd goal.. I am not sure who was on bench, but would rather have replaced Mo with another forward or midfielder to keep wba stretched, as the baggies had their tails up at 1-2 and for me as in so many drawn, throwing on an extra defender hands the initiative to the oppenents to come at Lfc "full throttle" ... especially as that extra defender didnt stop the 2nd goal (arguably from another ref. error) ..

The flanks were weak with moreNO and Joe "rusty" (Gomez good in forward play, but also ocassionally lapse in defence..and I really cant bother to argue about the Lfc Lb,  again...)

... I would rather have played Lovren and put Klavan at Lb as the obvious was to rest "durcell bunny" Robbo for tuesday..

so yes, like the away CL game at seville, /// ... a point was "ok" but not the way it came..

another goal for Mo, so that will have to "do"
see also :  /2018/04/after-j4t96-for-rednet-wbawayhavent-u.

....   The Lfc team need to be on top of the game on Tueday... and especially a week later in Rome...the bloody romans could make it nasty on & off the field..!

LIVERPOOL v Roma 24th april...

my Team selection.......

a choice,  not a prediction..    to  start with  .... GK ,.. Trent , Dejan, VVD,  Robbo ;   ... Hendo,  (for the home game probably start with Wijn, and add Milly,  who may be better suited to hostile game in Roma)  Ox,  ...   Mane,  Firm  and  .. Mo..
