Arsenal v Liverpool (1730 GMT, BT Sport 1)  media

Gunners' Carabao Cup win over Blackpool in midweek means they are now 13 matches unbeaten in all competitions, but it has been argued that run has been against lesser teams and Liverpool provides them with a real test.
Unai Emery's methods are slowly getting across to his team after a tough start, facing Man City then Chelsea, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is joint-top scorer in the league having netted seven goals already this term.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have last year's top goalscorer Mo Salah in their ranks,  his two goals and two assists in as many appearances can provide him with a springboard to hit the dizzy heights of last season's impressive form.
Liverpool are one of three teams in the top flight yet to taste defeat, and they are proving to be title contenders without their front three hitting top gear to date.
This fixture saw Liverpool emerge 4-0 winners at Anfield before drawing 3-3 at the Emirates four months later, so here's hoping the evening game can provide equal entertainment.

Opta statistics

  • Arsenal are winless in their last six Premier League meetings with Liverpool (D3 L3), their longest such run against them since a run of 12 between 1994 and 2000.
  • Liverpool have won just two of their last 18 away league games against Arsenal (D8 L8), though these victories have come in their last six such visits.
  • Liverpool have scored at least three goals in each of their last five league games against Arsenal (17 in total). Liverpool have never done this in six consecutive top-flight games against an opponent, while no side has ever done so in six against the Gunners.
  • The last five Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Liverpool have produced a total of 27 goals (5.4 per game).
  • Arsenal have scored at least twice in each of their last nine Premier League games, remaining unbeaten in their last eight (W7 D1).
  • Arsenal haven’t been ahead at half-time in any of their 10 Premier League matches this season. Indeed, if games finished at the 45 minute mark, the Gunners would be 17th in the Premier League table.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League games (W9 D2 L0), conceding just four goals in this run.
  • Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has both scored and assisted in each of his last three Premier League games against Arsenal – no player has ever done this in four consecutive games against an opponent in the competition (Steven Gerrard vs Newcastle and Theo Walcott vs West Ham also three).
  • Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored in all three of his Premier League games against Arsenal (one for Chelsea, two for Liverpool). Only Charlie Austin has a better 100% strike rate against the Gunners in the competition (4).
  • Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is unbeaten in all five of his Premier League games against Arsenal – only Jose Mourinho (12), Gerry Francis (8) and Alex Ferguson (6) have waited longer for their first defeat against them in the competition.
  • The only previous meeting between Arsenal’s Unai Emery and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp was the 2016 Europa League final – Emery’s Sevilla beat Liverpool 3-1.
  • Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored five goals in his last three Premier League matches.

interesting..

ChRiS: .... i had some sad memories with the ganmes at arsenal when I was a kid..
the 71 cup final when our young side lost at wembley
in 72 i wa on the open highbury terrace when we had a good goal disallowed that would have won the league..but..
then with RAfas REdS chasing the title in 09 in a winning run the freak Arshavin scored 4 goals in a 4-4 ..at Anfield damaged the title challenge
last season Lfc were battering arsenal in London, then almost lost it but that was before VVD and AB came in...

... the REdS go 3 points clear at the top , and here i am complaining? sending the wrong message playing moreNO when the team have a week to recover after this game...
about insulting cardiff by playing a squad level player - and the consequences that go with it...Cardiff almost scrambled an equalizer , having had NO shots or attempts on target with 86 % ball retention by Liverpool in the first half cardiff should never been in the game..

but concede at 2-0 , a sloppy goal which comes from...their right flant , the REdS left side,..

no co-incidence..
MO snapped up an early chance for 1-0 and looked in the mood, made 2 assists for Mane & Shaq,,

for me Fab and Gini did the job but...were often too deep but cardiff put 11 men in front of their goal for much of the game, instructions from that nasty piece of work;

ugly Warnock...

dont like him at all,, Bennett was cheating, and Murphys "dive" was ridiculous .... the ref was bad, could have given 2 pens, one for hauling down Mo and another handball more blatant than wednesday,,..Lalla almost scored from Alberto's cross (yes i know moreNO can look good going forward,,) but not yet match fit IMO

Gini put in a shift but , for me too deep... Milly did his bit and steadied the team shape once on the field...

Virgil headed on to the post from Mo' s cross, but VVD and Dejan were mostly sound, defensively , although I HATE JK tinkering with defence..

AB only had to pick the ball out of the net for cardiffs softy goal...

Trent , got up and down the right wing, without doing much damage with his final pass.

Mane came alive in the 2nd half... Shaq replaced Lalla

dont need drama... and rivals will drop points this weeked... note for Lfc fans...you should almost ALWAYS want rivals to draw and that means they only collect 2 points (between them) not 3!

It was interesting to note JK mention also Gini, as one of the players choices for captain.. however, IMO , and from personal experience a CB should be the ideal choice (you see the whole game) or a central midfielder... but the man must BE a man, for the players, not the fans, firstly...

REdNET bootroom updated ; post Huddersfield win - Pre red STAR (Eurpean home) REdS v reds and "Team - Machine"

LIVERPOOL v cardiff
Saturday 27 oct. 2018
Anfield 15h

the REdS , imo, need to start as fully committed to the win as on wednesday ...100% effort could bring 3 points to keep the league momentum going and push pressure on rivals...

SpL : edited by CS

n narrow win at Huddersfield followed by a commanding win against Red Star in the Champions League represents another good week for the Reds – even if they’re still not firing YET on all cylinders in the Premier League.

at Anfield, Warnock’s Cardiff arrive in what they must see as a ‘free-hit’ – even more so after beating Fulham last week to move out of the relegation zone.

An early home goal could lead to a blow-out and Klopp will hope that this could be the game where Liverpool show their goalscoring ability in the league, although a pragmatic approach could temper the home fans’ expectations somewhat.

Opta stats
Cardiff’s last league win over Liverpool was in December 1959 in the second tier, a 4-0 victory at Anfield .
There have been at least three goals scored in each of the last 10 meetings between Liverpool and Cardiff in all competitions, with 45 goals scored in total.

Liverpool have lost one of their last 45 home Premier League matches against newly promoted teams (W35 D9), with that defeat against Blackpool in 2010-11 – they’ve won all seven under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield by an aggregate score of 21-2.

Cardiff have lost 14 of their last 15 Premier League matches against ‘big six’ opposition (D1), conceding two or more goals in 12 of those games.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock has managed four away games against Liverpool in his managerial career, losing all four without seeing his sides score a goal – he has lost to a different manager on each occasion (Souness, Houllier, Benitez and Dalglish).

REds v redstar

Liverpool v Crvena zvezda

4-0

Post match reactions

VVD  (capt. tonight)

----------------
Mo & VVD in analysis

difficult start - but REdS settled ... after 20 mins red star worked hard and actually out run Lfc in terms of Kms...

Fab came in and was a bit off the pace then grew into the game and all the players improved once they got their foot on the ball and steered the game into a sure victory, the away team put in a shift but had NO shots on target ...

AB never in trouble, Trent might have done more but was mostly in command.  JK must have a great sense of humour taking off Robbo who ran a 10km 1/4 marathon... and putting on his estranged love-child moreNO ..thats showing fidrespect for Belgrade , Juergen ?  :)

Gini was everywhere and made 2 ofthe goals - as did Shaq..
please give Studge at least half an hour, otherwise he is honna always try to get another super goal like at chelski.

."the Firm" got his usual european goal. and linked up from deep. from wide and central , sometimes it seems like he has a twin on the field..

Mo sharoened up, could have had more goals.  but took his chance well, scored one of the 2 "soft pens" (ref a mucker of Klopp?)  taken off for Studge, so will probably start saturday.
:)

goal drought>>>???

Mane is my "question"  in patches looked SO dangerous...  when he puts it in, he looks a world beater, smiling face and expolsive pace... but sometimes loose with control... and pen was awful... made up for it with the 4th goal..

VVD and the equally impressive Joe snuffed out almost any half chances the away side might have used..

4-0 and with Nap / psg gaving a 2-2 the REds go away to the hot house of Belgrade.. top of the group..

again my MotM was Gini
was almways involced in midfield, involved in 2 of the goals... classy improving in every game ..

role on Home league game v Cardiff. saturiday.. if the REdS go into that ga,e with the same effort , 3 points will keep the pressure on domestic rivals

as fpr pens..  I would prefer defenders to take them.  jusy smash it in...

Anfield, 20h Uk  21h pPg

(ChriS edit)

  • Liverpool's "Firm" (Bobby) has been directly involved in nine goals in his seven Champions League games at Anfield for the club (five goals, four assists).
Liverpool  beat Huddersfield away at the weekend, and thope to make it two wins from two when they welcome Red Star Belgrade @ Anfield.
Lfc  lost 1-0 to Napoli in the last group game  & PSG hammered Belgrade 6-1 in their encounter with the Serbian outfit.
This should be a home win given the contrasting quality in the two squads, Belgrade saw 17 shots on target against them in that defeat to PSG In the Redstar home draw with Napoli (Matchday 1), there were 20 shots in the away side's favour, with eight being on target, and it helps go to show how they are on the back foot for the majority of European games.

(ChriS; however, red star players will fo their utmost to avoid another big defeat, Lfc players must come out with all guns blazing and put the game to bed as early as possible... 100% effort needed tonight and on saturday v Cardiff!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BLl6KbJGNY ( JK pre match )
Liverpool should have a high corner count here as a result of a number of attacks, which will give their defenders , especially VVD, opportunities to find the target. (ChRiS edit;  as long as, IMO VVD, Joe or Dejan, take a run at corners from the edge of the box)
VVD's arrival in January undoubtedly improved the Reds' defence and his aerial presence is beneficial at both ends of the pitch, and expect him to win more headers in the opposition box
 Opta facts
  • The only previous meetings between Crvena Zvedza and Liverpool were in the last 16 of the 1973-74 European Cup – the Serbian side won both legs by a 2-1 scoreline.
  • Liverpool’s only previous meeting with Serbian sides in European competition was against Crvena Zvezda in the 1973-74 European Cup, losing both legs of the last 16 by a 2-1 scoreline.
  • Red Star Belgrade have won just one of their nine away games against English opposition (D4 L4), though it did come against Liverpool in November 1973.
  • Excluding qualifiers, Liverpool are unbeaten in each of their last 16 home games in major European competitions (W11 D5), scoring 39 goals in that time.
  • Liverpool have lost three of their last four Champions League games (W1), as many as their previous 17 combined in the competition (W8 D6 L3).
  • Crvena Zvezda have only won one of their last eight games in major European competitions (excluding qualifiers), drawing four and losing the other three. They have scored just two goals in those eight games.
  • Liverpool haven’t lost back-to-back games in the Champions League group stage since November 2014 (three in a row).
  • Marko Marin scored Crvena Zvezda’s first ever goal in the Champions League in their last match against PSG – it was his first goal in the competition since his debut for Werder Bremen against Tottenham Hotspur in September 2010.
  • Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has been directly involved in nine goals in his seven Champions League games at Anfield for the club (five goals, four assists).

Liverpool hope to take advantage of Red Star ban
Having lost to Napoli after conceding a late goal in Italy last time out, Klopp is targeting the visit of Red Star to return to winning ways in Europe.
The Serbian champions are bottom of the group with one point from two games and were banned from selling tickets to supporters for the game at Anfield after incidents during and after their team's play-off round tie away to RB Saltzburg on 29 August.
JK hopes that will prove an advantage to Liverpool on the night.
"It's not nice for the people from Belgrade but we would not have had a problem if their fans had been here," added the German.
"We are looked at as one of the most experienced sides in the competition, but we are still pretty fresh ("new") compared to other teams in the competition._______________

HuddersfieldLIVERPOOL 1 (Mo !)

almost instant post match report... :)
(Harv,edited by CS/REdNET)

why, oh why, do you, Juergen cede control with negative subs... ??? how many times have we said this on REDnET ??????

ok 0-1 is fine, but to take the step and the title just will have to dare .. carpe diem...

NEVER with this squad should Lfc DEFEND a lead, they dont seem comfortable with this idea!!! how many many times hAVE WE SAID THIS..??? ffs!

STARTED WELL , MORE OR LESS CONTROL, BUT WITHOUT CLEAR CHANCES 0-1 .. thanks Joe, Shaq & Mo for that..goal!

Gini on at half time ok, but for me , obvious Firm for Studge...first 90 mins, why push it...?

not Fab , but where was Mane?, broken thumb...come on ,,, ! Gerry Byrne played a cup final with a broken collar bone !

the movement was foo predictable against a home side who played with 10 defenders, Wagner some friend of JK , eh? 😉

Mo scored but didnt look happy without his Fab 3 mates to celebrate?

Shaq was active but i expected more from him//

Joe impressive and Gini after he was on/// ( Hendo jaded?)

was a title winners result, again without playing at their best..

take the 3 points and say THANK YOU!....

CRS :  added':-       .....  2 fortunate incidents hudd. hit the post (AB saved well from a clear header which Dejan didnt defend) and some refs would have given a pen for Milly's hand glancing the ball in the area ) ...

although Ref Oliver gave 2 yellows for minor offences ; Joe (no it was Lalla,(ed) ...)  & Studge ...but didnt book opponents who hacked down Mo  & Gini (2nd half..)

ChRiS> My MotM ; Joe ... again..!

TEAM-Machine TACTICS

The way JK works , seems to me, vital to get his whole squad working "automatically"  so the "pauses" and injury disruption, probably HURT Lfc pre-match Preparation more than most,  the weakness is that when plans are disrupted the players are less "ready" to adapt within the game itself - having been "pre-conditioned"  .. however, when some of the key players (plus JK and the coaching staff)"mature" the in-game management, the REDS could become virtually unplayable.. and are alraedy in title contention will certainly take the title..when they can achieve this ..

my main concern is the tendency to "defend a lead" mind you after the "pause" and injury doubt getting 3 points was the most important thing, ....and good to see Adam back in contention ..a bit "rusty" but showed some of his class again..

and IMO Joe, dejan and VVD... should let someone else "crowd " their GK at our corners and take a run at the ball from the edge of the pen areas, someone in the coaching staff needs to convince them that IF they (and they usually can) get 99% of defensive headers from corner, they just have to think the same when ATTACKING corners?

and OF COURSE .. opponents, coaches & defenders will be pre - warned about the Fab 3 ..

but ... when these 3 are back to form  ...watch out !
(expecially if NK gets into the "LIVERPOOL grove"
:)

REdS v red STAR

Anfield
wednesday night

24th October

last time ...when I was a kid... ('73)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msUOCCLLsm8

didnt know much about red Star belgrade - until they beat us at Anfield ...Shanks used this match and by May 74 LIVERPOOL were playing with 2 CBs and a mix of "continental" and route 1 football..   the FA cup final was a classic example to prove LIVERPOOL had "arrived" ..Shanks had built the basis of a dynasty from his experiences (having made TWO seperate champion teams for Lfc ) for Bob to go on and make records from... continued by Joe & Kenny until the 90's  from 1964 - 1991 ...almost unbroken success home & abroad - Shanks & our true REd SUPPORTERS worldwide, made LIVERPOOOL into a global entity, that today the commercial sharks profit from...

btw - if you watch the video from 73

.. red STAR went to the KOP at the end and WE applauded them - we hated to lose , but they won with great goals so got the appreciation of TRUE football supporters,,
