a disgrace , and typical of poor organisation by football authorities again..the fecking fools at FIFA, UEFA, EPL, EFL manage to make such a mess , having umpteen matches club & country at the most difficult part of the calendar, (NOW)and so few games schedued for March (when also the weather is calmer) or even make it pre season for ?super cup , World club etc like the "community shield" ?

Trent at 20 will be part of a World club trophy squad in Qatar, obviously as he is now more than a year as a first team "selection" for most games. but the whole squad has gone there,

was there not a case for leaving the younger players and a couple of old heads to supliment the youth / under 23 players that will line up on 17th December in the QUARTER finals? at Villa park..?

Will Rhian, Adam, Williams, Jones, be NEEDED or even used in either of the 2 games in Qatar? perhaps its seen as necessary to keep the bond on the squad together.. so best of luck to the kids on Tuesday..

Villa v Liverpool (Sky Sports Football, 1945 GMT)

There has been significant publicity surrounding this match as Liverpool are in Club World Cup action just 24 hours later.
It's forced LIVERPOOL into splitting his squad into two - with the senior players heading to Qatar and their youth prospects in action in the West Midlands. The likes of Harvey Elliott, Rhian Brewster, Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp Van Den Berg will all be involved in a very young Liverpool side - one that will be defiant but ultimately end up unsuccessful at Villa Park.(? CRS...we shall see, villa will have to avoid arrogance like this comment!)
Neil Critchley, the Reds' under-23s coach, will be in charge of the visitors which will be a boost to those on the pitch. "I am honoured to be in this position - but this is about the young players," Critchley told the Telegraph. He'll be eager to ensure that those involved will try and seize the opportunity that has been presented to them.

Liverpool's Club World Cup squad

Alisson, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, Milner, Keita, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Gomez, Adrian, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Lonergan, Shaqiri, Robertson, Origi, Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Williams.

villa are favourites for victory - something that would be far from the case if Liverpool at full strength.  There is a strong case to made for Liverpool hitting the net in this game though  Herbie Kane has experience of senior football having spent last season on-loan at Doncaster where he had direct involvement in 17 goals across all competitions. Primarily a midfielder, Kane has found himself utilised in more advanced positions for Liverpool's under-23s throughout their Premier League 2 campaign. That could be an indication of where he is going to play on Tuesday night with Critchley in charge.
Herbie Kane celebrates after scoring for Doncaster
Herbie Kane celebrates after scoring for Doncaster
Even more so in a contest with goals. Liverpool's 5-5 draw with Arsenal in the last round did see senior players involved, but a number of youth prospects were also given their opportunity - particularly in defence.
Villa will still hold some confidence despite a poor run of form in the Premier League. Their defeats came against sides in the top-ten, and they earned plaudits for their performance at Old Trafford.
They'll view this as the perfect opportunity to snap that winless run. A game against a young, inexperienced side at home should also see the net struck on multiple occasions.
That's not to completely take Liverpool out of the goal-scoring equation either. This is a club that clearly possesses believe and the right attitude throughout, alongside some very talented youngsters.

mainSCREAMed1a  :

Liverpool kick off their bid to become champions of the world on Wednesday as they face Mexican side monterrey in their first game of the Club World Cup in Qatar. It's a much-maligned competition that has been seen as a distraction since it was announced on the summer, with the REds missing a Premier League game to take the long trip to the Middle East.
Ironically, though, it may not be such a bad thing as long as they don't pick up any fresh injuries on their trip. If Klopp uses his squad correctly they could all get a decent run out without too much football in the legs, effectively using it as a warm weather training trip.
If injuries don't take hold, they will then return on Sunday ahead of their huge Premier League game with leciester on Boxing Day night. If looking on the bright side, the Reds will be out in the sunshine while tthe blue mancs  and leicester will be slugging it out at the Etihad this Saturday.
Of course, if injuries occur then that will put a massively negative spin on the trip which, after all, does just add to an already packed fixture list around this time of year. The fact Liverpool sit on such a big lead at the top of the table may help them on their trip.
What is the Club World Cup format?
It's the first time and English side have competed in the Club World Cup since 2012 and it's Liverpool's second bid at this particular trophy after they finished second to Brazilian side Sao Paulo in 2005. (with a dodgy ref)  Liverpool have entered at the semi-final stage, meaning they'll play just twice in Qatar, firstly taking on Mexican side monterrey on Wednesday before playing a second game on Saturday - either the third/fourh place play-off or the final.
All games are now being staged at the Khalifa International Stadium after the original venue, the Education City Stadium, was not completed in time. That has raised concerns from Jurgen  about the suitability of the pitch by the time the final rolls around.
What is Liverpool's squad for the Club World Cup?
Liverpool have a full-strength party in Qatar, with Dejan Lovren missing out through injury but Gini Wijnaldum travelling despite a muscle problem he picked up against watford. It's thought training in the sunshine will only help his recovery.  Youngsters Curtis Jones and Neco Williams did make the final 20-man squad but fellow youth players Rhian Brewster and Harvey Elliott remained in the UK
Juergen  has  rotated the squad in the last few games while still getting three points against everton, bournemouth and watford,  with Liverpool on target to play 67 games across seven competitions in 300 days if they go all the way in each of them.
monterrey v Liverpool preview
  • Wednesday Decmber 18 5.30pm - (c.e.t 18.30)
a step into the unknown for Liverpool who, despite being 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League, will still be wary of picking up needless injuries when they embark on trying to become kings of the world. It's still an honour  but obviously pales into insignificance compared with trying to win a first Premier League title and become champions of England for the first time in 30 years.
That is the tightrope he'll have to traverse with caution and he'd do well to try and mix-and-match his side for the two games in Qatar - that's the reason he's gone full strength and opted to go with the youth side for the Carabao Cup tie at Villa Park. So it remains to be seen if Liverpool will go full throttle for the first game and rest a few for the next or the opposite way around, b, making it tough to try and evaluate their chances of glory here, despite being odds-on favourites to lift the trophy.

Monterrey v Liverpool Opta stats

  • This will be Liverpool’s first ever competitive meeting with a Mexican opponent, while monterrey have faced an English side once before in the Club World Cup, losing 3-1 to Chelski in the 2012 semi-final.
  • In all competitions, Liverpool have lost three of their four previous matches against clubs from outside of Europe, losing to Flamengo (Brazil) in 1981, Independiente (Argentina) in 1984 and São Paulo (Brazil) in 2005.
  • monterrey have reached the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time in what is their fourth entry to the competition (also 2012); Mexican clubs have lost all seven of their previous semi-final matches in the tournament, most recently Pachuca against Grêmio in 2017.
  • Liverpool are participating in the FIFA Club World Cup for a second time, and the first since 2005 when they finished as runners-up to Brazilian club São Paulo. They are the first English side to compete in the tournament since chelski in 2012, who also finished as runners-up to a Brazilian champion (Corinthians).
  • Sides from Europe have won all 14 of their semi-final matches at the Club World Cup, including English clubs winning all three of their previous such matches, with Liverpool beating Costa Rican side Saprissa 3-0 in 2005 before manu beat Japan’s Gamba Osaka 5-3 in 2008 and chelski picked up a 3-1 win over Liverpool’s opponents for this game monterrey in 2012.
  • monterrey have won five of their last seven Club World Cup fixtures (L2) and are looking to win back-to-back matches in the same year of the tournament for the very first time.

SCOUSE not english..

results have actually made the game at leicester less important... i am more concerned about spurs away as Jose will really make some special tactics for that one.. brenda n is predictable.. .. as for game saturday, wanted Ox, & Div to start instead of Gine & Bobby, arguably proven... as Gini got an injury (over used) and Bobby off form (similar jaded?) ... Milly starting on the left is not a problem, Trent & Robbo are not "full backs" they are WING-HALVES! ... not too worried about tthe game as Mo decided to return to form .. early kick off, quiet Anfield, previous efforts v blues, at Bmouth and at salzburg (tiring) to be accepted , rsilience was a correrct comment by Juergen ... p.s. feck Neil Atkinson, ..glory hunting super fan nie.. ! WE are (global) SCOUSE not english,,, they killed all that I love about the country i grew up in... and you and anyone who claims to follow Liverpool who voted for the fascisTORY a holes, deserved the hellish swamp they are makign for you, sponsored by USA corp (a.k.a. fen way) J-96+30years....

JK didnt tell the photographers to shut up! :) ... but I dont agree with him about the political situation, he stated his leaning tot he left and socialism clearly.. thus he has a voice and should use it, it would have more effect on more people (30 million plus Lfc fans worldwide on the net) than any NGO spokesperson! ???
