Lucas Leiva another (f. s .g.) wasted player

Lucas

LfcFannies>

(fans being split about Lucas)
little surprise given that is how he has spent his eight years at Anfield,
constantly straddling the line of criminally underrated and completely unnecessary.

(CS> since Rafa left, as with many players , Torres, Masch, Skrtel, Alonso etc etc Rafa optimised the players talents
and BR is too green and inexperienced to do this..)

LFC> But a move from Merseyside would be seismic for one particular section of supporters,
a vociferous group who have become more frantic as the summer has progressed.
Signing Christian Benteke for £32.5m will bring goals,
(CS?? like Andy C.?? 32M is stll a lot of money)

while Nathaniel Clyne is an astute buy.  (CS> maybe >
James Milner could become a real bargain; (CS> not if BR plays him as deep as at Stoke...)

Roberto Firmino is exciting; Danny Ings can be a top option from the bench. (CS> exiting if proven, and Ings needs to be USED)

LFC> But where, they ask, fingers pulsing and heartbeat racing, is the midfielder the Reds need?
Even before a possible sale of the Brazilian was mooted, some felt the squad was light on that sort of player
– one who sits deep, breaks up play and dictates tempo on the ball.

To give it the uniform term: the defensive midfielder. To give it the Twitter term: the ‘DM’.
The clamour, from some, has been unavoidable.
What is a 'DM' anyway?
Even in our pre-season survey, when we asked fans which one player they wanted to see at Anfield,
the term ‘defensive midfielder’ was just beaten to top spot by Marco Reus, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Digne.
It was the only position where no names, and just the general concept, was enough.

It’s a wide-ranging term, of course. Some want a ‘DM’ to act as the destroyer,
the archetypal hard man who gets his knees dirty; others want the ‘DM’ to be an all-action midfielder,
athletic and strong, who will run for 90 minutes.

In theory, it makes sense. Lucas offers something few others – if any – do in the current squad;
an inclination to defend rather than attack, and a specialist in giving shape to the midfield.

Indeed, a soft centre has long been a criticism since Brendan Rodgers took charge at Anfield,
a far cry from the axis of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano from the late 2000s,
a duo to highlight the importance of holding midfielders.

(CS Lucas was often declared as "best ball winner and interceptor of opponent passing" during the dayz of Xabi and Masch!)

LFC> Alonso had the distribution, Mascherano the determination; together, a title challenge formed upon that foundation.
Has Rodgers ever used a DM?

That sort of set-up has long departed, for better or worse. Even in the 2013-14 season, so glorious on the front foot,
it was felt the Reds would have benefited with another body alongside Steven Gerrard to stop some of the 49 goals flying
 past Simon Mignolet.

(CS, it was without doubt for me, that "teachers pet Allen" was far too often selected in front of Lucas when fit
even a few goals kess conceded WOULD HAVE WON the long awaited Title, and OUR STEVIE would have finished a perfect
career WITH supporters like myself not leaving with him after a lifetime commitment...)

LFC> But then, sacrificing a player such as Philippe Coutinho or Raheem Sterling would have taken from the attacking force
which plundered, curled and fired in 101 goals over the course of 38 games.

(CS >  >?>>>>   ???  neither Phil or Raheem were "automatic" that season???)

The compromise was made with the diamond formation, but that saw Lucas and Allen further ahead of Gerrard,
(CS> YET another BR mistake,  wasting the attacking creativity , passing and shooting POWER of SG!!)

LFC> rather than in a traditional holding role.
This, perhaps, is the crux of the issue.
Liverpool’s best-ever spell under Rodgers came with an unorthodox defensive midfielder, Gerrard,
 sitting and spraying passes. The much-used, much-maligned term of ‘quarterback’ was associated with the role;
Gerrard was not there to simply protect the defence, but to be a further attacking asset in a deeper position.

(CS> the "cRUX" is that BR is a novice , who hasnt won a thing! SG and Lucas were intelligent enough to have formed
the twin role, but BR "exagerates" due to hos own ego, to prove that he can command a genius like SG, restricted him)

Lfc> Rodgers has also used Joe Allen – small, slight, the antithesis of a defensive midfielder
 – as the deepest role, with James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Emre Can also utilised there in recent weeks.

(CS> none of them should be playing there....)

Lfc> All of those have energy, all of those can press high and move across the pitch –
but all can have a telling impact in the final third, with the dynamism to get forward and operate higher up the pitch.

(CS> but NONE of them can protect the Lfc defence, which due to lack of unity NEEDS it)

LFC> Lucas, the most typical defensive midfielder in the squad, does not.

(thats not his role,,,, Lucas will win points by saving them)

LFC> Does a DM fit the system?
A lot of Rodgers’ successful spells at Liverpool,
(CS> "spells" ?? Kenny won a trophy, ..  and was removed after ONE full season...BR is a YOUNG media/yes man, Henry keeps him....,,,)

LFC>in terms of performances on the pitch, have come when all players are comfortable on the ball.
That, after all, was part of Rodgers’ reputation when he arrived from Swansea in 2012.

Add that to the fact this is the seventh transfer window the Reds boss (? nithing "boss" about BR!).. has not bought a
replacement or competition for Lucas, and it seems this sort of player is not in the Rodgers mould.

(CS> Key point ; CHAMPION TEAMS are built on defence ,,, because we still get a point when we dont score,,,)

LFC> It would be unfair to both Lucas and other defensive midfielders to write off their footballing ability
and present them as nothing more than bodies to get in the way.

(CS,,.. "bodies in the way" stop us CONCEDING !!  its called DEFENDING..._)

LFC> That is not true. Rodgers, after all, has handed Lucas 60 league starts in three seasons.
(CS and often those "selections, ONLY 20 games a season..?) were in and out of the team and in the wrong position..!)
The Brazilian is accurate with the ball at his feet, can produce intelligent passes and reads the game well. He would be an asset to most squads.
But perhaps not in Rodgers’ any more. Not him, nor the traditional defensive midfielder.
=Liverpool started with Henderson deepest in midfield at Stoke; Can would soon move into that role.
The German, in particular, caught the eye. As the game entered stoppage time, nails bitten to the bone,
he careered back towards his own goal, slid in on Marco van Ginkel, and executed a perfectly-timed sliding challenge.
Once back on his feet, he raced up the field to offer himself for a pass higher up once more.

(CS.. you need to look at the many defensive errors CAN made last year, and neither Hendo nor Milner shd be so deep_)

LFC> That élan is something Can must still master, but he is still just 21. He,
like Henderson and even Allen, are not limited to the back foot, but can also operate on the front foot.

(CS> JUST how many goal did Allen and Hendo create / score last season??)

LFC> Defenders of Lucas – and the DM role in general –
 would point to how well the Reds performed with the 28-year-old in the side last season;
they won 63.6% of league games with him in the side, just 27.7% without.
However, the season before, the figures were much different
 – 55% of games won with him as a starter, 83.3% without.
 His presence over the past two seasons has also averaged around a goal fewer on average per game;
while the amount of goals conceded have decreased, it is not quite as drastic as a goal a game.

(CS> When Lucas was recovering from a bad injury....)

LFC> That is not to disparage the loyal midfielder, but rather highlight why that sort of player
is not needed when a Rodgers side is at their best. Not one who is affordable, anyway.
("when at their best" ha ha and then U state not needed ...because of price?? contradict yourself? )
After starting him in the opening game of the first three campaigns,
he was nowhere to be seen at the Britannia – a change of direction confirmed.
Lucas’ Anfield future is uncertain, but one thing is for sure: if the evolution of Rodgers’ midfield continues,
he may be the last of his kind in a Liverpool starting 11 for a while

(CS> The writer is an "F S G clone" ,,,... apologetuc forthe wrong decisions, selections and tactics of f s g employee ; Rodgers,,,
I PREDICT that LFC will NOT win the title , even in one of the WEAKEST EPLs EVER,, without LUCAS playing at his BEST position
or without a TRUE DM,  a mature head not available in the squad... unless LFC bring back Masch!! ha ha ha)

too much LFC PROPER GANDA!! ;)

The core is rotten... so why discuss the skin??? EuREDnet "bootroom" v F S G's Lfc

9th June,, its fair comment by Brian on an fb YNWA group the other day..., its hard for me not to lay into BR, he is privaledged to play for what I considered the best club in the world (until the rot of '07 from the USA infestors) BR is highly paid, but u have to realise the policy of John Henry and f s g would never like a seasoned manager like Rafa, or strong characters like Kenny , and certainly not someone like Maureen .. (chelski) .I have worked on many projects with the states in my past, .typical USA infestors like to have young media freindly coaches (NOT MANAGERS") who they can "control"

.. BIG managers are too strong, .. f,s,g want to make profit, and they have made a clear profit,,,but not on the field, I blame BR because he took the job (from OUR hero Kenny, who Henry betrayed) we can talk all day about transfers but the money from tickets and kits etc comes from us, we made Lfc what it is, and BR should accept that he is limited , I wont pay a cent to the modern commercial Lfc, so I prefer to invest my "disposable on local/kids footy, you guys talk about players, but its obvious that the f s g committee/BR "transfer policy" is a disaster, and Mark can delete this post if he thinks its a "rant" ..but only Phil looks a player out of about 40 signed with f s g /BR...!! so ....fans have to protest or nothing will change,..

Good Lad, all those young millionaires at Lfc could afford to give more to kids ...!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/Net.Estranged.kids/ (Stevie has a foundation too...) Shanks Spirit...!

Of course Barca Beat Juve on saturday evening, which we "half watched" in the irish pub... its a reflection on the status of LFC that 2 players ; Mascherano and Suarez <who scored the winner> helped Barca wina trophy that we used to contest when Rafa was our manager Masch left when G & H / woy let him go, and Henry s f s g couldnt hold on to Luis..gone are the days when the CLUB WE made  attracted top players and replaced them with equal quality.. there is no quality, In the "INFESTORS" , in the boardroom, nor on the coaching bench.. the best kids leave us , or get loaned out, NEVER to return.. or are sold on the cheap.. I never imagined that Lfc would be just another "selling club" ... so I out of it, after a lifetime and focus on "footballs grass RoUtes" the kids and local footy clubs = MY Mission as a communty project,,,...

as per the Facebook..."its theirs Steve and Suzie, WE had the chance to take it before it was "sold" (souled out) to Henry and f sg , any decent business manager could make a success with more than 30 million fans worldwide all U do is keep the rotten infestors in power... LIVERPOOL (city) had 3 billion to invest ("08") ,,, we could have and should have taken it, but for far too many "fans" its too easy to just keep on paying their prices, well lucky u, now that the middle class and business people own what was OUR club before social justice became "unfashionable" , Lfc is just another USA commercial cash cow, and it fits the money infested Premiere league.... but....just as FIFA is being torn apart so will the EPL and Fsg s "modenr" Lfc with it ,,, u betray Shanks spirit...!"

This IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST headl;ines of the year!! WOY was the WORST "manager" ever allowed at Lfc ...EVER, and he can certainly show Raheem how NOT to win trophies,,, I fear that BR is another of the hodgson, "almost" creed... http://www.sportinglife.com/…/roy-hodgson-has-told-raheem-s…

Pre V geordies rant, should be "SAS 2" ..have a bevvy Stevie lad..

its obvious... the pairing of Luis & Studge last season gave the Team its " attacking edge" (scoring more than the opponents ) this should have been the first choice once Studge was back from injury 5 3 2 with the "SAS version 2" ...that would have helped Studge ..and used Raheem in danger areas

why do fans expect f s g , with NO experience of running a football club do manage it better ?? yes they get the "biz" ,,but anyone professional could do that.. USA sponsors are easy to find because of our name, Lfc has always been badly managed off the field but we had great managers doing it ON the field, BR is too naive , a decent coach but not a a"Manager"

... and thats why Henry wont have a BIG manager like Kenny , or Rafa, because themodern USA style is to have young people who "do what they are told" ... Lfc has been going bad in many ways since the Premiereship started ,Rafa was strong enough , but was back stabbed half way through, and I dont feel we will ever recover from losing him, (who toghether with Kenny , Mcparland and Rudolfo had a core of quality..) ,,, now ...we turnover players by the truck load..this is not the Liverpool way that I want to associaite with and when they forced Stevie to go by not giving him a contract I also decided this is my last season,,,, I could have bought 2 houses with what I invested in our club, the money isnt the issue , its the mentality whch is wrong now, on and off the field
... its just another commercial entity..

http://www.sportinglife.com/.../daniel-sturridge-hopes...
the Key is to combine these 2 as a striking force as Luis & Studge did last Year...IMO!

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/.../sensational-jordon-ibe...
BR "managing expectations" again (f s g style) and getting the fan nies to see IBE as Raheems "replacement"

Rafa Too big for Henry & LOyal Danny...discarded...
problem is the clubs in the wrong hands, wrong mentality and BR has to take a share of the responsibility, U can be a "manager" if u dont control which players suit the team, big problem of too many players coming in to Lfc squad and too many changes unsettles the bonding of a TEAM, f s g dont get it, and too many (so called() experts influencing,, thats why they wont have someone like Kenny or Rafa, because the f s g way is to have NO stoing characters running the club.. there U go ...in the media today too... SL> Saturday's Paper Talk (sporting life, Daily express)
"Martin Skrtel's Liverpool future makes plenty of headlines in Saturday's Paper Talk"...."Martin Skrtel has revealed his contract talks at Liverpool have been put on hold until the summer. "
its this sort of F s g type sh&te that makes me feel sick about our club,,
Martin is far ahead of any other defender, but of course he was a "Rafa Red" pre Brent/ henry & f s g so was always going to be "out" sooner or later.

then of course theres Stevie.. have a bevvy lad...with me, as we say goodbye to the club we loved and which once loved us..

these 2 must be the latest Lfc version of "SAS"  ->>>>

OUR club should be aiming for number 1, the Lfc "office" is always "managing expectations" .. ppl claim about the f s g commercial success, mostly sponsors from
USA who benefit from oUR NAME ....but.. something like 40 odd players signed during f s g and only Phil is a "regular first teamer" IMO. Lfc cant or wont hang on to the best. ... Torres, Masch, Luis ... and soon Raheem ???

SUPPORTERS V FAs

CS>Its a sad fact that whether its FIFA, UEFA, the national FA, or other "governing body" is that the wrong people "manage" or rather DICTATE our beautiful game, and the fault lies with society,
the fans, even GOOD SUPPORTERS do not take action, allowing the people game to become middle/business class and over-priced. Bias exists, and those "governors" should be excluded not "courted" by FSE, Supporters should decide WHO makes the rules of our global game, not tinpot politicians and businessmen or ex players on ego trips. When members are prepared to sacrifice
participation, strike, block and boycott matches and demonstrate at officials meetins "en block" ...then and only then, will we stand a chance of once more feeling this is OUR game, otherwise you just play THEIR (political) game, and finance the monster that is killing it.
and the sheeple who vote them in..

On 20/03/2015 09:00, FSE Info wrote:

UEFA seems to ignore negative effects of collective punishments in annual meeting with fans
> On 16 March, the annual meeting of the FSE Committee with UEFA took place, together with our partners Supporters Direct Europe and Centre for Access to Football in Europe (CAFE). Whilst progress was made and joint actions were discussed with regards to nominative ticket schemes and travel restrictions, we had to register that UEFA  was still unwilling to move even an inch in its position on collective punishments of fans.

> The FSE Committee is still missing a sign of understanding from UEFA for the fact that punishing fans that haven’t done anything wrong whatsoever, is unjust, doesn’t meet judicial principles and is hence counter-productive to motivating fans in the important commitment against racism. The justified complaints of supporter groups from Bayern, Manchester City or Northern Ireland, amongst others, that were presented by FSE Committee members in the meeting, didn’t change this. These cases refer in particular to the situation of away supporters who are punished for the behaviour of usually a minority of fans, and crucially of innocent fans of the other club, and till today haven’t even been compensated for their expenses relating to tickets, travel and accommodation. UEFA thereby imposes the biggest negative impact on fans who have had no involvement in the racist incidents and who in some cases have even engaged in activities against discrimination themselves as supporters.
> The FSE Committee is therefore unable to understand the predominant view of UEFA that this system of mass punishments has been a success. That this isn’t the case is not only shown by the fact that some of the same clubs still repeatedly receive sanctions for racist conduct of fans, but also by the European protest campaign “#Respect Fans” against these measures which has been joined by major non-racist supporter groups from more than 15 clubs playing in European club competitions this season. This clearly illustrates that the sanction logic of UEFA has to be considered in essential parts as unsustainable, wrong and unfair. The FSE Committee explicitly supports these protests and calls for fans to condemn the imposition of collective punishments on fans innocent of any offences and to intensify these protests, where appropriate.

> We urge UEFA to recognise and address fans' concerns on this integral issue, as otherwise we fear a continued radicalisation of the wider fan movement as a reaction to this position. This cannot be in anybody's interest. Despite our great disappointment about the outcome of this meeting, FSE therefore remains ready for dialogue with UEFA. It would be a crucial sign of a positive partnership that UEFA will make a move towards all the non-racist supporters, with an honest intention and true will to eradicate the current injustices in this system.

“I think certainly the FA Cup would give us a great boost as a team with lots of young players and players coming into the club.
“I don’t want to go down the route of saying that (a cup win equals success). Our objective was to win a trophy. I think if we didn’t get in the top four and we didn’t have a trophy this year, we ourselves would be disappointed.
“That’s the expectancy we want. We want to be able to be challenging every year. The FA Cup would mark a good step forward for us.”

  • Paul J Kav I would be happy to win the cup cos it will probably mean having to beat the arse in the final....sweet revenge!
  • Alex Wiseman Would we take a trophy over 4th place ?
  • Steve Evans Yes, coz auto qualify for Europe then!
  • Alex Wiseman Won't be in champions league though steve
  • Steve Evans True! But are we good enough for that? We can beat most teams but are struggling against better opposition this season, so as Champs League is better opposition we may struggle.
  • Paul J Kav Yes this is the Wenger school of thought....concentrate on top four and forgo everything else....he can afford to do that but I think BR has to win something soon
  • Alex Wiseman To be honest , I think football is about glory and trophies . Speaking as a fan I would take fa cup over 4th place
  • Steve Evans BR said a trophy was the target and 4th, so a trophy will please them and fans. We'd still be in Europe and it with a chance of Europa League glory like 2001 maybe?
  • Alex Wiseman Let's be honest steve what would most fans take an fa cup or 4th place?
  • Chris OUR club should be aiming for number 1, the office is always "managing expectations" .. ppl say about f s g commercial success, mostly sponsors from USA who benefit from oUR NAME but.. something like 40 odd layers signed during f s g and only Phil is a "regular first teamer" IMO. Lfc cant or wont hang on to the best. ... Torres, Masch, Luis ... and soon Raheem ???
  • Alex Wiseman We are aiming for number one. Sturridge is a regular first teamer too and Henderson and Sakho
  • Steve Evans I'd take FA Cup trophy and Europa League me. 4th is a bonus this year.
  • We ain't a selling club! We are aiming to win title, that is the dream and another Champs League.
  • Alex Wiseman I would take another fa cup for now
  • Paul J Kav Yes FA cup and rebuild for next season would do for me Top 4 would be a nice bonus though
  • Steve Evans Agreed!
  • Alex Wiseman Agreed Paul I would love both. But if you offered me a choice now I want the trophy!
  • Paul J Kav Ironically, the king got sacked for winning a cup and finishing outside top 4....FSG is showing some patience with BR as are most of the fans. Let's hope that faith is rewarded sooner rather than later?
  • Alex Wiseman Perhaps the patience is down to circumstances at the club being different ?

  • Chris>  Alex, Sakho is not automatic , Hendo Ok. (by Kenny?) but surely Studge cant be considered first team regular with his injury record?
ok Alex , splitting hairs a bit but .. I cant consider an injury prone player a "regular" nor Sakho, who hasnt completed a full season as first choice CB .. I agree with Hendo...so should I say "congrats" John Henry .. TWO players are consistent first team players out of over 40 signings ?

disgusted with BR ...no match report..its all been said before .. Brent is not effective at the highest level.. and only ONE f s g "buy" of 40 odd signings IS effective ..Phil..
