REdNET UPdate; World Champions REdS+ away day-night at maureen"s spurs.. campaign continues v fascisTORIES

spurs 0 v LIVERPOOL 1

almost live report (ChRiS)

16 points clear at the moment, (17 from the blue mancs) but, without at our best, spurs pushed the REdS too many got caught on thr ball, no MotM for me..(*but see below)

just a Team effort and a chance to re group and prepare for next weekend v man u.. the "rest" maybe took a little of the momentum out of the Team, as an extended match pause before the final in June did , more so,  give credit to maureen's spurs, wouldnt have argued if they had snatched a point at their new home..

despite LIVERPOOL having 3/4 ball possession too many passes were " game management" ..sure, keep it when u are tired, but why i dont rate Juergen as "manager of the decade" I feel the REdS shoudl have gone for the throat 100% instead it looked more like RAFA's team "control the game" plan, which is ok when u face a tough task, but spurs were there for the taking considering the form of the REdS... however .. MANe & Hendo , especially looked "off their best" ..

the REdS play formation is mostly 2-3-2-3 , not 4-3-3 as Trent & Robbo play WING-halves (its wrong to call them full backs) as both players spend at least as much time in the opposing half as their own..

AB
Joe VVD
Trent Hendo Robbo
Ox Gini
"the Firm"
MANe
Mo...

otherwise agree with most of the video...@ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSoQYyJPtvU

_

___the credit I give to Juergen , is that he has learnt NOT to "defend a lead - traditionally" ..  he used to throw on defenders when leading by a single goal, this time he freshened with like for like, Adam for Ox,  and Origi for MANe (who perhaps was still in the : african celebrations: ..  if you sit back, u invite the other side... "considered attack" is often the bets defence,,, defend from the front like Shanks, Bob, Joe, Kenny & Rafa did..

on reflection . for once the GOALscorer; "the Firm" (Bobby) is both match winner and MotM. excellent...!!!

The visit of Liverpool this weekend comes at a dismal time. for spurs  the  LIVERPOOL  side have never looked better or more clinical, and increasingly look like the perfect team – capable of winning in pretty much every conceivable style. spurs, then, will probably sit a little deeper than they did against vhelsea while Liverpool will dominate for long periods. But the wider shape of this match, and its territorial battle, is a secondary concern given the defensive issues engulfing tottenham at the moment.
    spurs’ defensive problems
maureen certainly doesn’t have a problem with how spurs’ high pressing dropped off over the course of 2019, but the problem is - having had so little time on the training field in December – the new manager is yet to impart wisdom on how to successfully defend in your own half. If you aren’t compressing space by pushing up, then you need to know how to keep a solid shape in a deeper block.
Until maureen  gets his tactical message across tottenham will continue to drift halfway between the two styles. This is why spurs are so weak in the transition and so oddly disconnected, neither covering space in their own third nor applying pressure to the ball. It is the sort of problem that any energetic and purposeful opponent will take advantage of, as a swarming chelsski attack did in their recent 2-0 win.

    HIGHLIGHTS | SPURS 0-2 CHELSEA
Liverpool will obviously approach this match with similarly furious self-belief. Klopp’s high line, gegenpress, and buzzing front three will drop into the gaps between the lines of a flat-footed Spurs formation and surely put the hosts against the ropes for much of the contest.
Tottenham’s defensive concerns aren’t just about team shape and transitions, mind. Their centre-backs simply aren’t clicking (see Danny Ings’ simple winner for Southampton last weekend) while a static defensive midfield – more on that later – doesn’t help. But most important of all is the on-going calamity in both full-back positions.

Liverpool can hurt Spurs on the flanks

It is no secret that Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are Liverpool’s best playmakers. Whether exchanging raking diagonals that stretch the opposition from side to side, crossing from out wide to create chances, or dipping into midfield to run the show should that space open up, the Liverpool full-backs are ludicrously creative.

🎙️ Liverpool are the best team in the world says Jose Mourinho as @SpursOfficial prepare to face the league leaders on Saturday

💬 In a plea to fans he highlights it took Jurgen Klopp 4yrs to make @LFC this good...

They are helped significantly by the fact MANe and Mo Salah play so narrowly, occupying the opposition full-backs to in turn create room for Trent, & Robbo. It is, of course, a serious issue that aurier and sessegnon are simply not good enough to properly defend either flank.Whether they are tucked inside to cope with Mane and Mo caught too far ahead of the ball (Liverpool will play long diagonals into the channel on the counter, as chelski did so successfully at spurs) this is the game’s most serious mismatch.  spurs could go 3-5-2 and sit deep
Clubs are increasingly playing with five at the back against Liverpool in the hope of neutralising the forwards, leaving three on three centrally so the wing-backs can get tight to Trebt & Robbo, and indeed it is a system Mourinho is familiar with. spurs lined up with a back three/five against norwich, spurs will probably go for a 3-5-2, then, sitting deeper than usual through fear of being hit with long balls over the top. After all, Virgil van Dijk’s direct distribution is a potent weapon – as proved in the 2-0 victory over sheffield, who were caught out by the hosts’ verticality. maureen is too savvy to allow his players to be so bold early on, meaning spurs will back off from the start and be happy to absorb pressure.
Most likely this will be spurs’ fans first chance to see maureen park the bus. Given some are already turning against his methods, defeat with these tactics would be damaging – but the tottenham manager really has little choice. Liverpool are just that good, with too many different methods of creating chances. kane-less attack could benefit spurs? Aside from their defensive concerns, spurs fans will be worried by lane’s absence, although they may in fact benefit from their captain being out with a hamstring injury. Kane hasn’t been at the top of his game for a while now, and assuming Liverpool will dominate possession he isn’t necessarily suited for a game in which the hosts will attack largely on the break.
Instead, a more fluid and pacey front line of son (returning from suspension this weekend) and moura may trouble Van Dijk. Certainly with Liverpool’s full-backs streaming forward there is the chance of succeeding with rapid transitions down the flanks, and so son and moura running the channels offers a route to escape that kane, dropping deep, could not. Midfield battle gives Liverpool clear advantage?
What’s more, focusing on counter-attacks should mean tottenham’s stuttering possession football takes a back seat this weekend. Against southampton in particular things looked stale, with eriksen failing to show for the ball and dele alli going missing – which left the defensive, midfield, and attacking lines all hopelessly disconnected from each other. Longer passing from the centre-backs to quick forwards will bypass a midfield that needs a lot of work. But spurs will first need to win the ball to transition like that, which seems unlikely. In fact, despite Liverpool being palpably better on the flanks and despite their front three being more than capable of outfoxing an out-of-sorts centre-back partnership, it is in midfield that Liverpool will feel most confident.
Podcast: How will Jose Mourinho do at Tottenham?
maureen is constantly changing who he plays in his double pivot, betraying his inability to solve a serious problem; the team looks too static in this area, unable to gain control of a game or win the second balls. By contrast, Liverpool’s trio is magnificent, and should easily dictate the tempo by winning the 50-50s and by outmanoeuvring their opposite numbers from open play. There is no shame in losing to this Liverpool team, which is fast becoming one of the best in the history of world football. Nevertheless, tottenham surely will, being in the midst of a clumsy transition from pochettino’s high-pressing football to a more conservative vision under maureen. The hosts are weaker in all areas. Even if they sit back and absorb pressure, they are highly unlikely to hold out for a full 90 minutes.
JOE may need his pace v son &co on counters and come forward (as Matip did late year)
Defeat itself for spurs s far from disastrous. What will be more telling is how the fans choose to interpret a bad result on Saturday. This isn’t yet maureens team, but to sit deep and still lose? That would conform to supporters’ worst fears about the direction they are heading.
Trent is in the spotlight ,
but ROBBO is going to be important at spurs too,  expect great things...

any fan nnie / fsg clone who thinks its good to let Gini go, really has no idea of what football is about, they only see the obvious, he is as important as ANY player, including VVD, AB , Mane or Mo..

    4. Can anyone beat Liverpool this season? That seems to be the only question left in a title race most people believe is already over, but can you just imagine if Jose Mourinho could be the one to do the unthinkable?

Liverpool have been so good that even with just under half of the season still to play they are only 8/1 to finish the Premier League season unbeaten. Of all the managers to inflict a first defeat, maureen would love to be the one to do it.

He’s been there and done it before of course, ever since he shushed the travelling Liverpool fans when winning the 2005 League Cup in Cardiff – the two seem to collide in huge footballing battles.

From that ‘ghost goal’ saga in the 2005 Champions League semi-final to Steven Gerrard’s title slip-up, maureen and Liverpool seem to go hand-in-hand in terms of big games.

🎙️ Liverpool are the best team in the world says jose as spurs prepare to face the league leaders on Saturday

💬 In a plea to fans

previously ho was striding down the Anfield touchline beating his chelski-badged chest after they ended Liverpool’s title dreams in 2014 – but four years later a woeful defeat saw him lose his man u job. It is never straightforward when these two meet.

& has struggled against Jurgen traditionally, winning just twice in ten games against the German.

And this time ho is right up against it as he tries to be that spanner in the works once again, with injuries not helping his slim chances of victory given the widening gulf between the two sides – which sits at a remarkable 28 points at kick-off.

      jose to park the bus?
kane is out, and midfielders are thin on the ground as Spurs go through a tough time in the treatment room. But, as our columnist Alex Keble rightly points out, kane’s absence in particular may just play into Mho’s strengths as he now has a legitimate reason to ‘park the bus’.

Spurs have been most un-mourinholike so far with goals flying in at both ends, defensive leopards don’t change their spots though, and the Portuguese will be itching to plug those defensive leaks as soon as he can.

tottenham fans won’t tolerate his old school sit-back football style but in this one-off occasion he can bring out the old double decker and try and frustrate Liverpool in the hope of pinching something on the break.

The main problem is, though, that o’s spurs just don’t seem capable of keeping clean sheets having managed just two all season, so having a team that has scored in 29 straight games coming to town is hardly ideal.

keble takes a tactical look at how tottenham can beat Liverpool without kane
spurs have only won one of their last 14 league games against the Reds & just don’t look like losing, whatever team he selects, and after making changes against everton the likes of Salah, Firmino, Mane, Van Dijk and Henderson have all had a week’s rest to recover from a hectic and successful Christmas.

Liverpool have also rediscovered their defensive nous over the last four games, keeping five straight league clean sheets and eight out of ten in all competitions. They really are an outstanding team and a nightmare to play against with their combination of tireless running and outstanding ability.

You can almost bank on a Liverpool victory, but it’s the manner of the win that we need to focus on, and principally whether tottenham can trouble Alisson Becker or not on the break – which seems their only real route to goal.

If you have seen Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk play together recently you will have seen a blossoming partnership that could rival anything we’ve seen in years, and without kane’s clinical eye for goal the best guess is that Spurs won’t be able to breach that solid rearguard.
