aston villa v LIVERPOOL  saturday 2 november #19

ChRiS: much of the media focus is on our potential fixture pile up this coming winter, often a weaker time for JKs coaching staff. with already 9 fixtures for december (already postponing the wham game!) .. but everyone needs to put aside the up * coming problems and the Big game in 10 days and focus on THIS weekend at villa park,  (a well known and liked venue for hard core supporters, ...and our old song... "twas on the bus from villa park, i heard me mate make this remark"....

anyway, OX cant do much more than score wonder goals atgenk and in the 10/19 goal thriller v arse nal wednesday night with the kids in the league cup penalty win...to justify a game..
as arguably Div did with 2 great goals.. and with Joe playing a heavy 90 mins also these 3 would be in MY selection, I choose Joe because the "high line" style of this seasons team "shape" requires a pacey CB pairing which shades it in favour of Goimez...IMO!

so this is NOT a prediction, if Mo is doubtful, but...

I would go with

                                         AB
Joe   &     VVD     (but JK will prob pick Dejan)

Trent                         Fab                       Robbo

Ox               Gini       (but JK may choose Hendo)

                                 "the Firm"
                                                     Mane
Origi (as a CF , NOT left sided please!)

anyway...

  • Matt Le Tissier:
    0-2
  • Charlie Nicholas: 1-3
  • Phil Thompson: 1-3
  • Jeff Stelling: 1-2
A clean sweep in favour of a Liverpool victory, although Charlie, Phil and Jeff all believe that Aston Villa will find the net.
Jeff is also giving Villa half a chance by predicting there will only be a single goal in it, whereas the others fancy the win with a comfortable two-goal margin.

Finals, Rome, & Istanbul, wolves away 76, so many comebacks 4-0 Barca, but that was fecking BEAUTIFUL , for the 5 / 6 kids Heaven....

yes... although I wanted Adrian in Goal, and Dejan as join CB with Joe, but ..it wasnt always the kids who made mistakes,

Milly & Naby did.. btu all craedit to the half a dozen kids who battled through,... they deserve to play again.. JK,,PLEASE  give them another chance whoever is in the next round..

Origi.. was fine, and I said he should, when selected play CF (traditional ) ,,, he is better there.,..dont stick him out on the left , Juergen, got it???

Preview ;

Expecting to rest key players , with Mo certainly out after a knock added to the injury caused by leicester,

CS: with a heavy schedule , a major effort to overcome spurs and a trip to Villa on saturday ,,, means changes.. I would like to see something like this   3-4-1-2...(ish) proposal NOT predictiion..

            Adrian,

  Joe, Dejan, Milly,

Ox, Adam, Jones, Naby,

Ellliot,

 Rhian & Origi

With Adam dropping in front of the defence , Ox & Naby using the space on the wings ... (to somehow replace the industry & creativity of Trent & Robbo) I would push Rhian & Origi (in the trad CF role ..onto the shoulders of the away defence... to allow space for Elliot & Jones to exploit..............................................we shall see what JK & co does ... would be nice to proceed..!

MainscreaMedia :

Despite only losing twice in their last 13 matches, arsenal seem to be in a bit of a crisis.
The Granit Xhaka incident has been a big talking point this week, but fans are also growing increasingly inpatient with boss emery.
This is a great chance for the gunners squad to come out fighting, to show togetherness and book their place in the last eight.
They did perform well in their league defeat at Anfield in August and will be hoping a number of changes, and the focus being firmly on the Premier League title, will help them come out on top.
The overall expectation is that, given the week arsenal have had, that Liverpool will come out on top one way or another.
But they can at least get on the score sheet, even without aubameyang who is being rested. ozil has travelled and could make his first appearance since their win in the previous round against Nottingham Forest a month ago, but there is interest in backing attacker martinelli to get on the score sheet.
The 18-year-old Brazilian, a summer arrival from Sao Paulo outfit Ituano, has settled in better and far quicker than many expected, with a return of five goals and assist in six appearances for the Gunners. He scored two against Forest and emery could keep the faith with him here.
In two Europa League appearances he has had an impressive 10 shots and against Forest alone he had six attempts. At a best price of just over 3/1 to score anytime, martinelli can at least raise Arsenal fans' spirits on Wednesday evening.

Latest is that Trent and Matip are out, so anyway I expected Joe to be playing.  the REdS need to take this game seriously as Genk gave Napoli a contest in the previous match....

from the independent ;  " GENK v LIVERPOOL (Virgin Media Sport, BT Sport 2)

Liverpool's defence of the Champions League was in a precarious position as Salzburg came from 3-0 behind to draw level at Anfield, yet Jurgen Klopp's side found a way to win one again and now they have their chance to step on the accelerator in Group E.
Genk won the Belgian title in impressive fashion last season, but the exit of coach Philippe Clement has left his replacement Felice Mazzu facing a big challenge to live up to expectations, with a shocking 6-2 defeat in their opening Champions League game and stuttering form in the Belgian league denting confidence.
One to watch: Mbwana Ally Samatta (Genk)
The Tanzanian striker has been smashing in the goals this season and has been a key man for Genk since his arrival at the club in 2016. "
Positives from the game at OT ;  Ox, Naby & Adam, all looked  sharp when coming on, albeit , IMO. too late, again...
Focus will be on the weekends game v spurs who, as with the mancs have been badly off-form recently.

    mainscreaMedia;  (sportingLife edited by CRS);
Liverpool have won only one of their last 10 away UEFA Champions League group stage matches (W1 D3 L6), losing each of the last four in a row, but genk does not strike you as a fixture in which they could stumble.
Belgian clubs have poor records against English sides (see the key stat, below) and it is a good chance for the Reds to turn around their form on the road in Europe.
The holders can put any nerves to bed by seeing off the game early on. Thirteen of their 21 goals in the Premier League have come in the first half of games and fast starts were a feature of their Champions League games last season, too.
the REdSs are effective and can control this from the onset, therefore the odds-against price on two or more total goals to be scored in before the break holds particular appeal,      nothing confirmed about a  return for Mo Salah.
    Key stat:
    • English league teams are unbeaten in their last 14 Champions League games against Belgian teams (W12 D2 L0) since man Utd’s 2-1 defeat at Anderlecht in October 2000 – five English teams have faced Belgian teams since without losing (Leeds, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester)..."
    CRS> i think this could be nice, if we apply this shape;

                                  Adrian

             Joe               Lovren        VVD

        Ox               Lallana     Milly            Robbo

                       "the Firm      Mane
                                    Origi

    OR 3-5-2  ....resting  Robbo & Bobby....  adventurous ;

                                    Adrian

                       Joe         VVD        Dejan

                             Adam       Milly
                 Ox                  Mane                 Naby

                              Rhian      Origi

    mancs v LIVERPOOL

1-1  late equalizer of the mancs "fake goal"

... Adam  , congrats to him after a long time out... it is always easier to be wise in hindsight  .. but if I knew Mo was out ,  and this reflects badly on leicester player Choudury who "took him out" and the ref who only gave a yellow card for a brutal foul in the pre pause ..

Much will be made of the stutter in the "winning streak"
... the mancs were always going to play above their recent form in this "North west derby"  ...I recall that we often "did them" when they had their glory yearsand going back to the LIVERPOOL dynasty , when i was kid, often the mancs woukd see the games against us (we were the Champions dominating European & domestic football,

Adam might shut up the fan nies who wanted him got rid of??

Not only was Mo missing but, Sadio & Firm & (ever so slightly) Fab looked jaded after their national tour games during the "national game pause"  which benefited the mancs more than LIVERPOOOL, IMO>

but we , like last season seemed to be set up in a less than optimistic shape, so on reflection I would have gone there will a shape better suited to attack... such as...

                                           AB
                              Matip (or Joe)  VVD
    Trent                             Fab                         Robbo
                                Milly          Naby
                                         Firm
                           Origi                  Mane

With Origi on the shoulders of  maguire / mancs back 3  who in the first half dealing with too many loose balls into them ... and Naby linking up to make 4 attackers when the ball is in our possession... I think JK, again, reacted too late, and got this game slightly wrong as did VAR for the home sides goal, Because Div was clearly fouled before the manxs broke on that side for james's cross evaded Matip for rashford's "goal"

I told a local mancs fan that IF they play for the rest of the season like that they wil escape relegation! :)  but I dont think they will and may well lose at Norwich,   (who beat the blue mancs recently)  LIVERPOOL go away to Genk in europe before another "tasty" game at Anfield where LIVERPOOL meet another troubled side; spurs...  3 points needed next weekend to put the REdS back in the  winning ways,,

Positives ;  Ox, Naby & Adam, all looked  sharp when coming on, albeit , IMO. too late, again..

its all BS! I was in a pub with manc sumpathy , and commented (with irony that few understood<) when Adam put the ball in their net ; "offside, handball! "

of course it was a foul on Origi, and had that goal been disallowed Lfc probably win , because JK needed half-time to change the shape ,

mind you he was late again with the subs, but at least Adam, Ox & Naby looked ready to play in the Team again...

JK will rotate , there are times when Hendo, Milly or Ox can come in because there are so many games..and sometimes different situations, form or injury.. I certainly , when fit & french would agree with Fab & Gini ,as first choice, but would suggest that Naby will be contesting with , Ox, Hendo & Milly , whowill challenge for midfield places too.

    191021
Dawn> I agree with the REdNET article.. we set up a bit too conservative, Origi was fouled , but Lfc didnt play well enough to earn the 3 points .. its a typical derby situation but Juergen should have been a bit more progressive with the shape of the Team, he changed it at half time and the lads got better, and if he had used the subs earlier I think we would have won, we ran out of time.. but on the positive side Adam, Ox & Naby looked better than in previous games, so Jk can rotate with more quality than last winter.. I dont think the Team will lose many more points

    Sclog REdNET
(late comment about the OT game...  "
its easy to be wise in hindsight,  but for me ,  the lack of adventure was obvious , and that must be down to JK,   I dont agree (even though it sort of works sometimes. playing Origi on the Left in such a game,  I would have told him to sit on Maguire's shoulder with Mane loose ,,  (Like Keegan used to do in the old days . off Toshack.. )  Naby or Ox or Adam should have been on earlier ... .. FIXTURE PROBLEMS????

    from sporting life ..

     the problem?

Liverpool have already had to postpone one Premier League match, at West Ham on December 21, due to a commitment to play in the Club World Cup as European champions.
Their departure for Qatar is a couple of days before the last-eight tie at Villa Park was scheduled to be played so Klopp's players will not even be in the country when the other matches are played.

    Liverpool's December fixtures

    • Wednesday Dec 4 - Liverpool v Everton
    • Saturday Dec 7 - Bournemouth v Liverpool
    • Tuesday Dec 10 - Red Bull Salzburg v Liverpool
    • Saturday Dec 14 - Liverpool v Watford
    • Tuesday Dec 17 - Aston Villa v Liverpool (Carabao Cup)
    • Weds Dec 18 - Club World Cup (Qatar)
    • Sat Dec 21 - Club World Cup (Qatar)
    • Thursday Dec 26 - Leicester City v Liverpool
    • Sunday Dec 29 - Liverpool v Wolves

    So what are the options?

A packed festive programme rules out a quick catch-up on their return and the most sensible decision, with the FA Cup also coming into play, would be to stage Liverpool's quarter-final tie in the week commencing January 6 on a date which is currently allocated for the first leg of the semi-final (the League Cup is the only competition which has a two-legged last-four format).
That would then mean the EFL pushing back one of the semi-final first legs to one of two midweek dates between then and the date of the second leg, week commencing January 27.

Liverpool have a huge squad and academy programme, why not just play the youth team?

For starters, many of the best younger players were already in the team or the squad to face Arsenal after Klopp made 11 changes to rest his senior players. It is likely Klopp will take some or all of them to Qatar in an extended travelling party.
That would effectively leave the club faced with putting out a side containing players not considered ready for first-team exposure, devaluing the competition at a critical stage and doing little for those players' confidence and development.

"The competition is there, we play the game, if we have no time for the next round we cannot change it." 🤔

Jurgen Klopp fears 's fixture pile-up after Carabao Cup win: http://skysports.tv/AgliBI

    Is Klopp's withdrawal threat genuine?

On the face of it, yes. He has long been a critic of fixture congestion and with the Carabao Cup coming last on his list of priorities, behind even the Club World Cup, the German will have no hesitation in conceding the tie if he feels the EFL has not considered the situation properly and is detrimental to the club's overall aims, which in addition to the Premier League and Champions League challenges also includes the development and well-being of academy players.
Liverpool's profile, as eight-time winners of the competition, reigning European champions and a global brand, means the EFL, its sponsors and broadcasters would be reluctant to lose them on a technicality, especially after that 10-goal, penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night.
