Glen Johnson says Liverpool will head into this weekend's clash with Manchester City buoyed by Sunday's Stamford Bridge success - and confident their excellent away form will soon be replicated at Anfield.Kenny Dalglish's side have drawn their last three games in front of their own supporters but after the superb victory at Chelsea, confidence is high going into the game with Roberto Mancini's Barclays Premier League leaders. The right-back insists a return to winning ways on home soil is just around the corner.
"Normally a team's best form is at home, but as long as we can start picking up a few more points at home and doing what we are doing away then we won't be too far away," said Johnson. "We haven't been playing badly at home.
"We've created some fantastic chances and if we'd taken one of them in a few games then we'd have nine or 10 more points and it would make it a whole new ball game.
"We can take a lot of confidence from the result and performance against Chelsea and we are aiming for the top four - that's what we are fighting for."

Kenny Dalglish paid tribute to the 'fantastic' performance of his players following Liverpool's dramatic 2-1 victory at Chelsea on Sunday evening.
A sublime solo strike from Glen Johnson three minutes from time moved the Reds level with the fourth-placed Londoners on 22 points after substitute Daniel Sturridge had cancelled out Maxi Rodriguez's opener.
However, the boss was keen to praise the collective effort of his charges rather than focus on individuals.
Dalglish told his post-match press conference: "If you have a fantastic performance you've got a better chance of getting a result and I think that's what we did. "We played really well in the first half, they got into it a bit in the second, equalised and put us under a bit of pressure,
but the players hung on in there and the result matched their ambitions.
"It's not bad when your right full-back does it - and it gives you an indication of the commitment and what the players were hoping to get out of the game. We're happy with how we've played and delighted with the three points. "It was a great finish by Glen. I don't know what he was doing in there but it was a great finish!
"We deserved to win."
Dalglish made three changes to the side that were held to a goalless draw by Swansea prior to the international break with Dirk Kuyt joining Craig Bellamy and Maxi Rodriguez in the starting XI.
Asked why he had chosen to pick the latter two for the clash with the Blues, Dalglish said: "It seemed like a good idea at the time.
"He likes London, Maxi - he likes the temperature here! He's a really intelligent footballer, as is Craig Bellamy. The two of them really appreciate their profession, they know how to look after themselves. The Reds went in front when Charlie Adam's industry was complimented by some intelligent work by Bellamy, who picked out Maxi to fire home.
Quizzed about the unselfish role played by the duo, Dalglish quipped: "Were they unselfish or should they have shot? But no, they showed appreciation.
"The fact Charlie won it set us off - that was the most important thing in the move and the rest of them are really intelligent footballers, all of them. They're not greedy and they know that it's beneficial for the team for someone to have a tap in. It was a good goal."
The success made it two wins on Chelsea's home turf in 2011 for Daglish and co following on from last season's hard-fought 1-0 triumph.
However, the boss felt the Reds produced a more polished showing this time around.
"We played better today but we got the same reward," he said. "We scored twice as many goals. We looked a better team, especially in the first half. Last year's was pretty defensive but this year we stood against them."
Dalglish was also asked for his thoughts following the news that Brad Jones's son, Luca had passed away. He said: "It was disappointing for everyone at the football club. Luca had been ill for a while and unfortunately he never got any better. That's when football becomes irrelevant when a boy loses his life. "I don't think we'd ever use Brad's misfortune to motivate ourselves, I don't think that would be right. I think everyone's been in touch with him but you dread to think what the boy's going through. He knows everyone at the football club is thinking of him and feels hugely sympathetic towards him."

Stewart Downing has stated his intention to build upon his man-of-the-match performance for England in midweek and demonstrate exactly what he's capable of to Liverpool fans over the coming weeks. The winger was the Three Lions' star man in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Sweden at Wembley, supplying the cross which led to Daniel Majstorovic's own goal. Downing feels he's not been in peak form for the Reds recently, but insists his lively England performance has supplied him with a boost in confidence - and he is aiming to make his mark on Kenny Dalglish's side's forthcoming fixtures.
It's my aim to carry that form on. I've been a bit quiet in the past few weeks at Liverpool, I'm the first to admit that, after a good start. "Hopefully we can kick on now. We've got some good games coming up and all the players will be needed to be at their top form. I'm feeling confident at the moment." Since completing his transfer from Aston Villa in July, Downing has tallied 12 appearances for Liverpool so far.
The Reds have made a highly-encouraging start to the 2011-12 campaign, with their attack-minded style of football helping them to sixth in the Barclays Premier League table and into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup. Still, just as he does from himself, Downing feels there is more to come from Kenny Dalglish's side. "It's probably been a bit up and down," he reflected. "We started very well and we're still in and around the mix. "As I said, we've got some good games coming up - games we can go out to win. I think we can go to Chelsea to win the game.
"I've come back off international duty full of confidence and I'm ready to kick-on and play well again." Earlier this week, Steven Gerrard spoke in glowing terms about Downing's move to Liverpool, with the Liverpool captain claiming the transfer had arrived at the 'perfect time' in his career. Does the man himself concur?
"I would probably agree, yes. I'm 27 and in what people say are your peak years in football," said Downing. "It was a great move for me at the time and a great football club to be at. If I can really start to produce the form I did for Aston Villa last year, I should be fine. Hopefully I can do that over the next couple of years." Downing is still awaiting his first Liverpool goal, though he could not have come much closer on his debut when a surge from deep resulted in the No.19 thumping a drive against the crossbar, while he also recently struck the base of the post against West Bromwich Albion.
While eager to find the back of the net for the Reds, the winger isn't troubled by the statistic and admits as long as he continues to carve out chances for his teammates, he'll be content.
"I think you do get as much satisfaction from setting a goal up as you do from scoring one yourself," said Downing. "It's what I am in the team to do - to create and chip in with a few goals.
"I have probably been a little bit unlucky in hitting the bar and the post, but you've just got to keep plugging away and it will go in sometime. "It would be great to get a goal on Sunday at Chelsea. It would be a good start, but if not I'll just keep carrying on, trying to create and play well. That's the main thing."
Downing has predominantly been deployed on the left-wing thus far in his fledgling Liverpool career, though it has not been an uncommon sight to see the 27-year-old popping up on the right.
Indeed, the England wide-man claims he sometimes even prefers to play on the opposite flank.
"When I did it at Middlesbrough, I didn't tend to like it," admitted Downing. "But now I think I have played there quite a lot and would probably even prefer to play on the right.
"Some people might find that a bit odd, but I have become accustomed to playing there and feel quite comfortable. I can play left and right and that's probably good for the manager and good for me because it gives the team and myself options." He added: "I don't know what it is that I like about playing on the right. At Aston Villa I played with Kyle Walker. We linked up quite well and that probably helped - playing well and being comfortable in the position.
"You can come inside and play just off the frontman, whereas if you play on the left you tend to go outside quite a lot. You can add different things to your game, which I think I've done over the last couple of years. "I'm quite comfortable playing either side the manager asks me to play."
Like all of Liverpool's summer acquisitions, Downing has settled comfortably into life at Anfield.
He was joined at the club in pre-season by a fellow north-east native in Jordan Henderson, while Geordie Andy Carroll was already at the club - though it is the spirit and camaraderie throughout the entire squad that has impressed Downing. He said: "I think I've settled in very well. It's a great place to live. I think it helped I knew a few of the lads here, who showed me about.
"I went for something to eat with a couple of them and that helps. It can be a bit daunting coming to a place where you don't know anyone, so it was a massive boost for me to settle in straight away. "It has helped there are a few north east lads here. Jordan is from there, so is Andy. It was the same for them - it's daunting coming here to a big club with big players, but I can't fault the lads. "They've been absolutely spot on. They're a great set of lads, really good to be around, and I'm really enjoying it here."
By his own admission, Downing's transfer to Liverpool represented the biggest move of his career.
But how does playing for a club of the Reds stature compare to some of the other sides he's turned out for since breaking into Middlesbrough's first team back in 2002? "The expectations," is his reply. "You need to win every game, whereas at lesser clubs sometimes if you lose a couple or draw a couple it's okay. "Here there is an expectation to win every game, which I like. It puts pressure on you to perform, which brings out the best in people. "I'm really enjoying it. We're a good team and a good football club with a great set of lads. It's been really good for me up to now."

Charlie Adam dedicated Liverpool's late triumph over Chelsea to goalkeeper Brad Jones following the news that his son Luca had passed away on the eve of the Stamford Bridge clash.
The Reds snatched a 2-1 victory courtesy of Glen Johnson's sublime solo effort and the Scot was quick to send a personal message to his teammate following his tragic loss.
Adam said: "I'd like to dedicate the win to Brad Jones who had a difficult week losing his son.
"That one was for you big man and we are all thinking about you."
It had looked like Liverpool would have to settle for a point in the capital after substitute Daniel Sturridge had cancelled out Maxi Rodriguez's opener.
However, Adam felt the Reds were worthy victors and was pleased with his role in the Argentine's 33rd minute strike.
He said: "It's one of these things when we are told to press. Fortunately I got it and Maxi did well to finish it. We then did well to bounce back after conceding early in the second half.
"It's not a scalp because we are two big clubs chasing each other. We are in a good position and know it could be better if we'd got other results. But we are happy with the win." He added: "It was difficult because they are a good side. They have top players but we've got good players ourselves and I thought we were terrific today. It was a good way to bounce back after a difficult couple of weeks. The result at home to Swansea was hard to take but you have to do that when you come to places like this if you want to do well."
Meanwhile, goal-hero Johnson was delighted to net the winner against his old club.
Johnson said: "I like to get forward and was really grateful to score the goal today. It was fantastic. Obviously I've had a few difficult months but I've been feeling better game by game and I finally feel like I'm getting back to full fitness. I feel good.
"We knew we dominated the first half but knew that they would maybe get a kick up the backside at half-time and we expected the reaction. Kevin Keen believes Liverpool are yet to reach their full potential so far this season – but is confident fans will soon be watching exactly what the side are capable of.
The Reds first-team coach feels the squad is still in the process of gelling together after a busy summer that saw no fewer than seven senior signings arrive at Melwood.
"I think we've started reasonably well, but it could have been better," Keen told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Everyone knows the home games we've drawn - we could have picked up a few more points there.
"But it's a long season and I really believe at some stage everything is going to click.
"You have to remember we've got quite a few new players that came in during the summer - and even this year overall if you include the January window. "Kenny hasn't been back in the job for a year yet and Steve (Clarke) and myself are quite new, so it's all still coming together.
"But I really think as the season goes on, we will gel more and more. I hope the supporters are seeing the kind of football we want to play is starting to come through and that we'll start taking our chances and scoring a few more goals. We'll be fine for the rest of the season."
Liverpool return to action this weekend following the international break by travelling to London to take on Chelsea. The Reds will return to Stamford Bridge on November 29 for a Carling Cup quarter-final tie. Keen acknowledges obtaining two positive results away to Andre Villas-Boas's side will be a stern test for Liverpool, but he's confident the Reds have what it takes - particularly if they're clinical in front of goal. He said: "They've had a little sticky result at home (against Arsenal) and we were disappointed after the Swansea game.

"It's a big game, especially playing them twice in 10 days or so. Going to Stamford Bridge twice is a big ask but I think we can organise ourselves properly and do quite well. "I think Andre Villas-Boas has brought a little bit more of an attacking slant to his side, so it's going to be a big test but one Kenny, Steve and I are working on. "I certainly think we will create chances against whichever team we play, as we saw against Manchester United and Arsenal earlier in the season. We will create chances and have an attacking intent about us. "We've got some really good, exciting attacking players and against whichever team we play, we'll always go and try to score goals. That will be a big part of our game plan on Sunday."

In our latest starlet in profile, we speak to defender Michael Wilson ahead of U18 clash at Manchester City. The young defender has represented the club since the age of 12 and has given a good account of himself whenever he has been called upon by Mike Marsh so far this season.
Here the lifelong red tells us about his dramatic shoot-out winner against Bayer Leverkusen, which defensive trio he looks up to and why his most embarrassing moment is still fresh in his memory.
Who would win at 'skill skool'?
Kris Peterson. He's got all of the best tricks. He's very skilful and I think he'd win easily. If there's a spare ball knocking about in the changing room he'll be straight onto it pulling off 'around the world's' and all that sort of thing. He just loves messing about with a ball.
If you could holiday anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Australia. I've been there before and it was just brilliant. The beaches are great and the weather is fantastic. It's a big country but my preferred choice of destination would be Brisbane.
Last album downloaded?
Drake's latest album.It's got a few decent tracks on it. I like a lot of house music too.
Last film watched?
Cool Runnings. It was on TV the other night. It was hilarious. John Candy was a legend.
Favourite TV show?
The Simpsons. It's such a clever comedy and it's funny on so many levels. Homer's great in it but I think Bart makes me laugh most out of all of the characters.
Worst dresser?
Tom King. He's got some shocking jumpers.
Worst taste in music?
Yalany Baio. He always tries to put his Portuguese stuff on before matches. It's not the best.
Best moment in football so far?
We played in a tournament in Holland when I was 12 and came up against Bayer Leverkusen in the final. It went to penalties and I stepped up to take the decisive kick. It was a great feeling and still gives me a buzz thinking about it now.
Worst or most embarrassing moment relating to football...
That's a tough one. There are probably loads of embarrassing moments I can't think of right now. I tell you what is fresh in my mind though... giving a penalty away last weekend. We lost as well so I'll say that. Mistakes are part and parcel of the game but it's something I'll definitely be looking to learn from.
Which three teammates would be the most useful to get trapped on a desert island with - and why?
Nathan Quirk and Connor Wearing are good lads and we have some great banter together. They are two really good mates. I'd pick Baio too. He just makes me laugh all of the time!
If you could take one of the lads to have their haircut, who would it be?
Baio! That hairstyle is just poor. He needs it all shaving off!
Teammate who spends longest in the mirror?
Baio again! He's always flexing his muscles in the mirror.
Best ever player in your position?
Carles Puyol at Barcelona always impresses me whenever I see him. You can't go wrong with Jamie Carragher either. What a servant he's been. He'd be up there, as would Fabio Cannavaro.
Best thing about playing for Liverpool FC?
It's the team I have grown up supporting. It can't get much better than that.
The U18s face Man City away today. Important to bounce back after the defeat to Bolton isn't it?
Yes, of course. We didn't perform like we can against Bolton and got punished. This is a big game and we need to step it up if we want to avoid a similar result this weekend. City will be strong but we've got good players and will be doing all we can to get the win.

Steven Gerrard has given his backing to an initiative that will see over 1,000 members of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force given free access to Premier League grounds this weekend. In total, Tickets for Troops will give away over 20,000 match tickets this season to members of the armed forces - and Gerrard is delighted to support the scheme. He said: "It's fantastic that the Premier League is supporting Tickets for Troops in such a major way and making so many tickets available for members of the British Armed Forces.
"We recognise the very special job they do on behalf of all of us and this is a great way of saying thank you." The Barclays Premier League has had an association with Tickets for Troops since the 2009-10 season and allocates courtesy tickets for selected home matches to serving members of the British Armed Forces, and all those medically discharged from the forces since the commencement of military action in Afghanistan in 2001. However, on this special celebratory weekend all the 10 home clubs are giving up part of their allocation to Tickets for Troops.
Perimeter board and match programme space will also be donated to the charity in addition to stadium announcements being made at all 10 grounds, while clubs will also individually highlight the work of the British Armed Forces.
The weekend will also be highlighted by the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), which the Premier League provides with free TV and radio rights to Barclays Premier League games.
Richard Scudamore, Premier League chief executive, said: "The Premier League has a longstanding relationship with the Armed Forces with thousands of serving personnel following match action around the world - which we provide for the British Forces Broadcast Service for free. "Tickets for Troops is an excellent addition to this as it ensures members of the Armed Forces can see the action for real when they can get a chance. I'd like to thank the 20 Barclays Premier League clubs for generously donating over 20,000 match tickets this season."
Tickets for Troops Chairman, Lord Marland, added: "We are hugely grateful to the Premier League and the Premier League clubs for supporting the troops in this way. "Tickets for Troops provides organisations the opportunity to celebrate the terrific work of our troops and their commitment, resolve and courage to protect our national security. "The generosity of ticket providers, including the Premier League, has been remarkable and shows the depth and feeling that is felt throughout the country and the desire to support our troops."
